of stones that look like faces.

Asians are steeped in mythology about spirits appearing in wood, stone and vapor. They predisposed to seeing them everywhere. Not like rational western culture that only sees Jesus in toast, logs, and concrete stains. ;)

Not only that, but for some reason the have many country roads along which are statues of mushrooms. Also the festivals where they have ladies carrying carvings of long mushrooms with little caps.
Different strokes for different folks. Or something like that.
