He annoyed me at first... But then I got past that.

This one isn't on the you tube channel, but it's done a bit better. He does voice over in post production instead of the manic yammering in the first couple builds I watched, and it is more informative and you don't have to endure as much silliness.

https://crimsonguitars.com/the-9-hou...-in-real-time/

There are a handful of other builds there too. I watched the 100 minute and 12 hour guitars first, and am currently on episode 2 of that link ^ up there.

I think I might try this guitar building thing.

Bruce gave me a huge slab of wood.... You happen to remember what kind of wood that is, xo? I have some sepele and some wenge, as well....

So this is research, really.

It's Black Walnut.

Gravdigr 10-22-2018 01:22 PM

That's racist.

African-American Walnut

I follow a bunch of various makers.

This guy is fun. His accent reminds me of home.

DanaC 10-22-2018 01:35 PM

Ohhh - I am totallly sending my brother a link to that.

@ UT -

Hopefully this plays outside the UK.

Jonathon Pie on 'Mansplaining' - from his live show - (nsfw):

That sort of thing is going to slash away YouTube's relevance very quickly.

xoxoxoBruce 01-17-2019 09:41 PM

What relevance, as an entertainment alternative to the Netflix or Hula?

Undertoad 02-16-2019 09:11 AM

And now there is the very silly Pewdiepie vs T-Series subscriber count battle.

Pewdiepie is fun. He's a Swedish gamer, who cracks funny at memes. T-Series is an Indian music video channel... not silly at all, just mainstream Indian culture. It's an actual battle for what would be far and away the top subscribed YouTube channel. (These two channels have 85M subscribers and I believe the #3 contender has about half those numbers.)

Pewds is now making it into a huge comic battle, inside joke for the fans, as if it's critically important that we all subscribe and "smash Like" on videos so he can defeat T-Series. It is in the spirit of Boaty McBoatface and Pewds clearly understands that. He takes himself very un-seriously. Which is surely why he's popular.

"Bitch lasagna" Pewd's fake rap song to focus the battle

here are a few examples of his stuff:

About mistakes people make prepping for disaster survival...

...More recently, about looting and state response in the wake of the hurricane...

Nice thread here DanaC.

Great info overall. For the majority of my adult life I've been living short term at a given place, then moving on. Short term - move, Short term - move. For years. I'm good at it when most others are not.

It doesn't make me sad either. Moving.

So, when the subjects are taking care of yourself, preparing for situations that are beyond your control, and surviving those situations in reasonable comfort short term, I'm paying attention.

I completely agree with the notion that just having guns is not going to get you through the crisis. And that one is none. Two is one. And many other ideas shared in the videos.

It's also great to read your enthusiasm for the whole idea of prepping. That you don't need to be preparing for the coming communist invasion to benefit from these suggestions. Natural disasters are a very real reason to take some time and effort in preparing.

I'll also share a little gem free of charge from my little group of roaming contractors that I've never seen online.

Rice and dry dog food.

Shortly after I move in, there's a big bag of both somewhere in my crashpad.

Much cheaper than the freeze dried Mountain house stored food and something to give out in a time of great hunger. First the rice, then the dog food. Not exactly FEMA rations but if you're hungry...

At the end of the contract, there's always a nice dog nearby I can gift the dry food and rice to.

Cheap insurance.

Good channels to watch. Nice thread!

Do they ever mention to include a big bag of salt? You can preserve what you kill for eating later, without having refrigeration.

I'm thinking meteorite here rather than civil instability

xoxoxoBruce 02-20-2019 10:24 AM

Yeah, I was reading about this guy who has a plan to feed 6 billion people with fungi and weird shit in case of nuke war, big space rock, or super volcano. He was saying any of those would practically blot out the sun for at least two years.

Then it dawned on me, that would render all those solar panels almost useless.

Good call.

It's cheap, non-toxic, not flammable and not terribly incriminating when the FBI breaks the door in.

I'll add it to my list.
