East or West?

Sometime in late August I'm going soul searching. Taking about a week (or so) and driving, just me.

I live in Indy, and I have narrowed it down to two locations: South Dakota or Maine.

What I'm really looking for is expierences with either of these places. I've never been to either, and both hold promise for nice things to look at. Anyone have some input on either?

For added diffculty, I'm not taking the same route back in as I took out, but that's just for fun.

It would seem that many ppl go west when thinking of "soul searching".

Although, I'd find out which is closer, and go for the opposite.

Good luck and have fun. :D

Maine is good for experiences.
South Dakota is good for thinking. :)

Philosophically, the West is defined as the place where energetic, goal-minded people go to. Back in the day, like back to anthropological times, people were guided by the sun. I would assume that there were a few people that wanted to reach the western edge of the sky (back then, they thought the Earth was flat, possibliy square in shape, and that the heavens could be reached if one traveled enough.) Anyway, They thought that the sun was made of gold, and so, such people chased after the sun for days.

Now, The East is defined as the direction to which intelligent, faithful people go towards. They reasoned that if the sun sets in the West, and that tomorrow it rises in the East, it would be much easier to go towards the East. And to me, Thus the eastern and western civilizations were born.

I do not know if that helps you, since that applies to back in the day, (besides, Geography does not follow that order). If it helps, I know that Freemasons do not put into account the East. They have symbols and other instruments applied to the North, West, and South. I have deciphered it out of a booklet of forms and rules of the Freemasons.

By the way, what religion do you follow? It might help on the search.

Tomas, admit it. You're actually a 45 year old guy ...

I haven't been as far north as the pics at this site, but take a look at Maine.

Rural Maine

I went to Maine every summer for years. It's incomparable. The air is better in Maine, everything's better in Maine. I vote: Maine.
PS-the folks up there are a little, shall we say...taciturn-? but you'll get used to it.

Taciturn is good for soul-searching.
I've not even been to the States so I can't actually have an opinion on which one to head for.

For me, the answer would definitely be Maine. But you're right, check them both out. Sometimes you get really good "vibes" in places you wouldn't expect. I had to drive through Wyoming once and thought I'd be bored to death--it turned out to be a really beautiful place for many different reasons. You never know what you're going to get....good luck!

(with a stoic stare and monotonous voice) No, I'm not.
It is truly a very hard thing to demonstrate that I'm 16 over the Internet. ;) But I'll give it a shot. (sighs) Ok, here goes nothing.

I'm 16. sixteen. XVI. diez y seis. decimus et sixtus, dekadion kai hexadion, 10000, ................ ixsay-eentay

(numerical, English, Roman numeral, Spanish, Latin, Greek, Binary, DOT formation and pig-latin. I hope it's good enough)

Now we know for certain you are a 45 year old guy.

The pig latin tipped us off.

Cut off an appendage and count the rings.
Does it really matter what age the poster is? Isn't content the bottom line? :eyebrow:

Trilby 08-20-2004 02:14 PM

We're just forensically challenged, Bruce. We want the truth! Otherwise, you're correct---it does't matter one way or the other---I'm jus' doing what I do--
I don't argue PETA but I do :stickpoke:

Clodfobble 08-20-2004 02:27 PM

Just for the record, pig latin doesn't separate by syllables, so TECHNICALLY you're ixteen-say, not ix-say-een-tay.
