Some people just have too much time on their hands.

I just got off the phone after talking with a now NON donor. He called to complain that he was going to make a donation on our web site but now refuses to because we have the "audacity" to require his e-mail address.
I explained to him that we do this so the donor can get a receipt asap for tax purposes. He said that since his credit card company already sends him a receipt and that we should not have to. (FYI - 501C3 non-profits are REQUIRED to provide receipts).
I told him I would be happy to take his donation by phone and he would not need to give his e-mail address at all. He said he was already "SOOOO ANGRY" about "Having to make this phone call to complain" that he would never donate to us "EVER!".
I just told him I would pass on his comments. He said "I hope so" and hung up.

I wonder what he does if the toast is burned? Break out the uzi?

Absolutely just being an ass: well I was GOING to donate a bunch of money until you required my email address you sonsabitches. To do this to a charitable organization is the kicker: if he wanted to call Verizon and be bitchy about a product, he'd still be an ass but not quite on the same level of assiness.

Yeah, like he was ever going to donate anything.

What a jerk. Shel, do you find it hard sometimes to NOT say "fuck you very much?" Because I do!

:)

I do. I've also come close to saying "Well, I'm sure the little boy with leukemia who WAS going to go to Disneyland will understand your perspective and appreciate all you've done to prevent that from happening.".

Gimme the address - I send something. It'd be the first positive thing to happen for me in awhile. Things been shitty round these parts.

Not only did he act like a tit by phoning up with his ridiculous complaint, he also took up Shel's time which could have been spent dealing with someone who did want to donate.

You Soooooo should have said that.

He was just a jerk who wanted to indulge his ego and temper. he probably is rude to waitere etc as well.

Sheldon, you do some awesome verbal smackdowns (i remember the anti-smoking twits). That situation called for one.

I'm guessing Shel doesn't get a choice to say what's on his mind. I hope you keep posty-notes Shel! Write down what you might have said if you really could.

Then write a book called something like "Sheldon's What I Would Have Said" and include all the stories. Seriously. It's not a bad idea. If you need an FA section I have a few stories as well. ;) In fact, there is a well of great stories right here in the Cellar.

We need a book.

I've actually already mentioned at a few meetings that we need to write a book, "Donating for Dummys". :-) I can't count how many times people have made a donation on line and entered the honorees' name and address in the donor info sections and then scream at US because the "donor" got the tax receipt in their name.

Book Schmook. We need a thread.

FA For Dummies *disclaimer--if you can't read this book perhaps college isn't a good fit for you.

Oh never mind: that's like every publication ever put out by anyone who has ever had anything to do with FA, evah.

The sad thing is that in his own mind, he probably thinks he was doing a good thing by pointing out this major injustice that will improve the quality of the charity and bring in more revenue.
