Tse Moana 07-10-2006 01:57 PM

I think, officially, you're supposed to call them little people... But the clip was v. funny!

Vertically challenge individuals? Ok, I stand corrected. Anyway, glad you like it. :)

Short People

Short People got no reason
Short People got no reason
Short People got no reason
To live

They got little hands
Little eyes
They walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet

Well, I don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
`Round here

Short People are just the same
As you and I
(A Fool Such As I)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(It's A Wonderful World)

Short People got nobody
Short People got nobody
Short People got nobody
To love

They got little baby legs
That stand so low
You got to pick 'em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin' peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time
Well, I don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
'Round here
;)

'Dwarf' is the correct word , Ibram . Velasquez is very good on the subject of dwarves . Look at his paintings . Las Meninas would be a good painting to start with . Velasquez never mocks . He shows the complexity of their souls , whilst making us look at our own souls . The difference is not very great . Perhaps the dwarves are simply more aware of tragedy and absurdity than 'we' are .

Incidentally , Velasquez' paintings of dwarves were once also very useful to medical specialists in the days before photographs and technology in general .

Dwarf...seems less politically correct than little people. Did you ask them Buddug?

LOL XoB...that was fun :)

I know dwarfism is the correct terminology for the "condition". So I think dwarf is probably correct.

(Unless you were kidding...........)

Clodfobble 07-20-2006 09:57 AM

But not all little people are afflicted with dwarfism, there are other conditions as well.

That's the problem with trying to cope, in todays world, with advice from the past masters and classic literature.

Even if the advice/information they diseminate is accuate, quite often it wasn't, that was then and this is now. Even if you don't care a whit about "politically correct", scientific information has grown exponentially in just the last few years alone....

...........except in GA.

Midgets are all around in porportion like most of in the 'Wizard of Oz'. Dwarfs are short in leg and arm but the body and head is of normal size. ( I think )

Q: What is a midget?

A: In some circles, a midget is the term used for a proportionate dwarf. However, the term has fallen into disfavor and is considered offensive by most people of short stature. The term dates back to 1865, the height of the "freak show" era, and was generally applied only to short-statured persons who were displayed for public amusement, which is why it is considered so unacceptable today.

Such terms as dwarf, little person, LP, and person of short stature are all acceptable, but most people would rather be referred to by their name than by a label.
