2/26/2004: London's toilet art installation
http://cellar.org/2004/londonwc.jpg
full story Public restroom facilities are always an issue in cities, but here's another take on it: as art. This looks like a box of mirrors, but it's really a shitter with one-way glass: http://cellar.org/2004/londonwc2.jpg ...so you can use it and watch the rest of the world, while they can't watch you. The name of the exhibit: "Don't Miss A Sec". I would use this. |
What happens if you turn on the light inside after dark?
|
Geez...talk about shy bladder.
It would be really great if the walls were liquid crystal, and they were programmed to randomly go instantaneously clear. Now *that's* art! |
I was over in London & Paris recently and I refused to use these toilets that are out in the middle of the street. You never know what dirty bugger has been in there earlier. Harrods & the Ritz was a much better choice and even came with a nice selection of perfumes for you to spray to your hearts content.
Call me a snob, I don't care. |
But a clean snob.
|
Why.... thank you Bruce.
|
Cleanliness is next to Godliness, unless of course you are in Safeway, when it is on aisle 4 next to pet food.
|
Now this, on the other hand, is great art.

If anyone is ever in Amsterdam there are some great toilets in the Museumplein. The cubicle doors are clear glass until you lock them and they automatically mist up - clever stuff
|
Welcome to the Cellar, Dotster. I remember seeing a thing on TV about how they work. It was talking about using them as house windows for controlling passive energy gain and loss. Then they showed the toilet door application in a night club. Not for the paranoid.:)
|
Thanks for the welcome!! Those toilet doors were still a bit seethrough though but it's Amsterdam and you can see worse (Or better!!!! ) in the shops
|
I guess the level of concern changes when you're talking about seeing or being seen.;)

judging by most nightclub toilets i've been in, if that happens you've got bigger problems.
