true...

I STILL don't have my seat back from Corbin. Getting kind of pissed about it by now. I returned it on April 2nd. You'd think they would make their corrections a priority. The sales rep sucks too. Doesn't return emails. Promised 3 weeks ago that I'd have it back at my house in 2 weeks. Then told me it would ship this past friday. I got no shipping notice and no reply to my email asking if it was still on schedule to ship. I'm going to call and ask for a sales manager if I don't get a reply by 10 am PST. I don't know that I'd use them again. There are a lot of other options.

Gravdigr 05-09-2016 01:16 PM

I priced Corbin seats for two bikes I had. Their prices were ridiculous.

lumberjim 05-09-2016 01:18 PM

The seat I ordered was $898.

The Yamaha was $700. They got it right the first time and I am happy with the look and feel of it. That's why I came back. Next time? Today I doubt I would.

Gravdigr 05-09-2016 01:25 PM

JFC.

I had a 73 Honda 750 Four, extended forks, ape hangers, tall skinny front wheel. It had a really well-used king/queen seat that I wanted to replace with another just like it. The seat with suede insert (because that big ol' bike would really move, I mean really move, it was hot-rodded all to hell) was over $600 waaaaay back then. The solo gunslinger (?) for my Suzuki 550 LTD was $500+. It was more than third the cost of the bike.

Yours are big, wide seats. Comfy, too, I'll bet. But, $900. Goddamn.

Gravdigr 05-09-2016 01:29 PM

I sold that Honda to an acquaintance who killed himself on it 2 weeks later.

I felt like I'd killed him myself.

Then I learned he was drunk, running from Kentucky State Troopers with no helmet.

lumberjim 05-09-2016 02:07 PM

Yah, the seat is 900. I paid 1800 for the bike.... But it will be worth 7500-8000 when I'm done with it.

xoxoxoBruce 05-09-2016 04:54 PM

I paid $2400 to change the color in my truck. There was nothing wrong with the old seats I was just sick of the color.

Undertoad 05-09-2016 04:56 PM

I went through a round of loserdom, now I don't spend money any more.

I'm like one of those people who lived through the great depression and now if you tell them you're going on a cruise, they ask why would you spend good money to go on a boat.

lumberjim 05-09-2016 07:22 PM

Amanda is like that. Unemployed for 2 years, 6 years ago, and now if I pay more than 1.99lb for chicken breasts, she gives me shit.

classicman 05-09-2016 08:40 PM

Wow, I thought it was just me...

Griff 05-10-2016 06:19 AM

No, I think a lot of our generation is with you there. Crap economy along with bad education and work choices put me in the position of being poorly bad my whole career. So yeah, I'm with you guys on tight purse strings... Maybe this should move to a different thread because I'm enjoying the bike project.

lumberjim 05-10-2016 10:11 AM

next thing is to take all of the body parts off and go eye a couple paint shops. While it's apart, I'll be changing the motor mounts, fixing the fairing mounts, installing the usb charger and LED lighting. Hoping to incorporate switches for those into the open spots on the instrument panel. I ordered the switches that fit, just have to adapt the wiring to fit my stuff. I got the wiring service manual last week, so I'll get some return for my $60 investment.

glatt 05-10-2016 10:35 AM

I'd be curious to hear how you go about finding a paint shop.

meanwhile, I got no reply all day to my email sent Friday the 6th. I left a message for her manager at 12:39pm PST... no return call. Last night I sent another email to Janice asking if she was too busy to reply to my email.

She replied to that saying she didn't have an answer from the factory yet.

my reply to that bull stih

Quote:

In future, whether you have the answer a customer wants to hear, or not, you should reply to emails or phone calls within the next business day. At least to tell them that you don't know and are looking into it.

As you know, I'm getting very impatient and frustrated with this situation. When you get the order wrong and are correcting it, I would expect that those returns should get priority treatment. It took less time to create the original and ship it than this is taking. And if your correction queue is longer than your new order queue, what does that say about the state of affairs in the production process?

I was very pleased with the seat I got for my Yamaha. ($700) That's why I'm back for this seat. ($900) That may not seem like a large order to you, but, it's the most expensive single upgrade I've done to either bike. I will have a very hard time doing business with Corbin next time. I like the product, but if the customer service and production facets are this broken..... All that's left is how this problem is handled.

I'd like you to review my order with your manager. I left a message for her yesterday, and am still awaiting a return call. I still want to speak with Ms Garcia regardless of the disposition here. I can be reached at 267...

I spoke to a guy in E. Berlin Nj that advertises specializing in motorcycles. Another that does custom work... might be on the expensive side... and got a referral from a bike mechanic that uses a local guy in Philly and always does good work.

I'll go see the NJ guy and the Philly guy. The custom place looks too expensive.

The gas cap is under that door. You unlock it with the key, and it comes open toward you. The actual gas cap is just a black plastic screw on type.

Found this. It came yesterday. It's on already. I also got a new console (the wide vertical area between the fuel door and the seat) cover that matches.

It might be worth talking to Patrick Smith at Smitty's Upholstery.

http://cellar.org/2016/smitty's.jpg

I don't know if he does bikes, but his work is excellent. He did my SSR, two of my buddy's '56 Chevys, a wagon and sedan delivery, which are more difficult than a sedan, and several show cars I've seen. Plus he seems to be a nice guy, as are his two helpers.

lumberjim 05-10-2016 12:20 PM

For paint work?

xoxoxoBruce 05-10-2016 12:25 PM

I'm looking for one of those myself. I know a place that does good work but after they fucked me over last summer I can't recommend them. I'll ask Guy, the retired Harley tech, he's in with the bike and hot rod set in south Jersey.

xoxoxoBruce 05-10-2016 12:40 PM

Guy say he'll talk to the painter today and see what his schedule is. Do you want the frame painted too?

lumberjim 05-10-2016 01:11 PM

no, just the body parts. fairing, fenders, tour pack, saddle bags and side covers. I'll bring the parts detached from the bike

xoxoxoBruce 05-10-2016 02:03 PM

Cool.

xoxoxoBruce 05-11-2016 07:34 PM

Just sent you an email with the painter's info.

lumberjim 05-11-2016 08:16 PM

Thanks. Went to see a guy in Philly today. I have to wait fur his estimate as he was uncertain about matte finish paint.

I'll call your guy tomorrow and see what he knows about it.

xoxoxoBruce 05-11-2016 08:30 PM

I like the look, it shows the shape without confusing reflections, and appears to radiate color from within.
The problem with matte finish, according to the truck forums, is it shows fingerprints and if you scratch it, it's very hard to hide or fix.
Investigate semi-gloss too.

Ripley's oil painting got earmarked to stay at the school in the display case until next year. Teacher's Merit award or something.

Good on her!

Thread titles changing, cats and dogs sleeping together, what in the world is this world coming to?

glatt 05-19-2016 01:40 PM

Nice job, Ripley! I like it. She's got talent.

Is it a self portrait?

Apparently the word 'something' is too common for the search feature to recognize, and it can't see 4 letter words... I asked glatt to change it so I can find it if it's been a while since I've posted to it.

xoxoxoBruce 05-19-2016 05:23 PM

Well done. :notworthy

She says no, and it's not jinx either... I think it's a little of both.

classicman 05-19-2016 09:17 PM

Talented young lady. Very nice.

infinite monkey 05-19-2016 10:12 PM

Clodfobble 05-20-2016 08:46 PM

Holy crap, that's good!

Griff 05-21-2016 06:58 AM

That is art. Wow Jim, she's got something special going on.

Wow, Jim, your girl's a bona fide artist! That's a brilliant piece of work.

lumberjim 05-24-2016 04:17 PM

Thanks. I'm really impressed with it. Looks like she's been doing it forever, but that's the first oil piece I've seen her do.

Gets it all from me. ;)

xoxoxoBruce 05-24-2016 06:44 PM

So Corbin finally came through, looks good.

lumberjim 05-24-2016 08:24 PM

It looks like when someone takes their fluffy lap dog to the groomers and it comes out looking like a lion.

Its embarrassed. Don't stare

Shouldn't that be marked NSFW, all naked like that. :haha:

glatt 05-24-2016 08:48 PM

You are putting so much work into this bike!

lumberjim 05-24-2016 11:17 PM

It's not all good news. The dickhead before me had the main fuse stuffed behind the fuse box instead of clipped to the face of it where it belongs, and it's a little worse for wear.

Yes, but you can find all this shit now, before it bites you in the ass. :thumb:

lumberjim 05-25-2016 09:34 AM

Yeah, I'll be going over it fine tooth fashion. This here could have ended badly.

lumberjim 05-25-2016 10:48 AM

Replacement parts are ordered. Glad I didn't have to buy the entire harness. Got a bunch of fuses too. Figure I'll just replace them all while I'm at it.

glatt 05-25-2016 12:11 PM

So was that the seat rubbing on that fuse? Every bump the guy's weight rubbed the seat against the fuse?

lumberjim 05-25-2016 01:06 PM

No, the fuse housing was back in where the swing arm goes up and down. Either lying on the drive belt, or getting pinched between the tire and the belt or maybe the swing arm.... I'm not sure. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...540431f23b.jpg

Between the fuse box and the frame.

lumberjim 05-25-2016 01:09 PM

Anyway, it's supposed to be outside on the face of the main fuse box.

lumberjim 05-25-2016 02:31 PM

Close. The MoCo service manual in front of it holds that honor. And the can of liquid wrench penetrating oil next to the Golden monkey is up there too.

lumberjim 05-25-2016 07:08 PM

Well, all the parts are at the painter now. Went through books looking for a match to the blue on the seat and came up with....

Nissan 2005 blue B16 matte. under hood color.

xoxoxoBruce 05-26-2016 01:29 PM

We had a local High School principal who was a Jap art specialist and collector. Mostly expensive antique stuff, which was displayed at the school because he bought it with school money. They were excellent examples for the students to copy for art class. Seems he was choosing the best copies to display, and selling the originals on the sly. It took quite a few years to catch him.
