Good find LJ !!

theotherguy 08-02-2007 09:13 AM

Spectacular. IMHO, Teatro is one of his best ever. I bought it on the release date and have listened to it regularly since.

freshnesschronic 08-07-2007 08:05 PM

Esmee Denters. A YouTube sensation, she was recently signed to a label if I am correct. She has a better clip, Dancing With My Father, that I already posted on ye olde viddeo clip a while ago, but check her out she is da ISH.

DanaC 08-07-2007 08:42 PM

Amy Winehouse. She may not have hit the states, she's quite big over here. Very talented, but very troubled.

Bought the album as soon as it hit the US shelves.

Rexmons 08-08-2007 10:28 PM

i'm not a big fan of american idol but this guy chris daughtry tore up the song hemorrhage by fuel, imo he did a better job than they did:

I spoke to Jack White and Brendan Benson a while back in our local Starbucks (Jack has a house not far from us). My wife said, "Do you know that guy? I see him a lot of places I go. I was going to make a joke that I think he is following me."

Sadly, I had to explain to her who The White Stripes and the Raconteurs are. :headshake

jinx 08-09-2007 09:28 PM

Sooo... how long has he been following her? Do you think she could score tickets?:D

I just discovered her a couple of weeks ago. She just slays me. But, can you tell me...how much of her white trash heroin addict schtick is schtick, and how much is for real?

Rehab is an awesome piece of music. Reminds me of Little Stevie Wonder, with a wicked left hand twist.

Unfortunately it's mostly for real. She is well on the road to dying young. She was taken into hospital two nights ago suffering from 'exhaustion' and has a reputation for canceling gigs at the last minute again for 'exhaustion'. Rumour has it that she spent wednesday night having her stomach pumped.

She is very sweet in interview. Though also very clearly far enough off the rails to have forgotten what they look like.

Elspode 08-10-2007 11:13 PM

Well, that's fucked up, because there's a difference between singing the blues and dying from them. She's absolutely on fire right now, and she'd have to be completely stupid to fuck it up.

Somebody needs to give her the Janis Joplin lecture before its too damn late.

DanaC 08-11-2007 06:50 AM

Maybe her newly wed husband will calm her down a bit.

The girl is ludicrously talented. A real original. If she produces a few more albums like Back to Black she'll still be being played in twenty years.

DanaC 08-19-2007 03:20 PM

I've been rediscovering The Divine Comedy. Here is one of their newer ones: Guantanamo, and an old classic: Alfie (one of their best songs and one of my all time favourite songs).

DanaC 08-19-2007 03:26 PM

And another couple: Because the best way to see Neil Hanon perform is live ;)

DanaC 08-19-2007 05:31 PM

The Smiths. How soon is now, from the Meat is Murder album.

This band was the big thing when I was growing up in Manchester. The guitar riff on this song, is, for me, the sound of 80's Manchester.

lumberjim 08-19-2007 11:57 PM

the cure: like cockatoos

had a special meaning to me after breaking up with the punk rock girl i thought i was in love with when i was 18.

DanaC 08-20-2007 05:48 AM

Ooooh. I used to love the Cure! When I was at 6th form college they were what the 'outsiders' listened to. Which begs the question: at what point are there enough outsiders in a sub-group, for those outsiders to become insiders?

jinx 08-21-2007 10:22 PM

Currently stuck in my head...

Intergalactic - Beastie Boys

DanaC 08-22-2007 05:05 AM

I don't believe I've ever heard a song speed up that much. The drummer starts it way too slow for the groove, and they spend the rest of the song making up for it.. until by the end it's twice as fast as when it started, actually too fast for the groove. Maybe they did it on purpose.

zippyt 09-02-2007 11:12 AM

UT , that may be , but Stevie seems to get WAY into the groove !!

lumberjim 09-14-2007 07:18 PM

Singing, yes.

Walking around, being kissed by Fred Astaire? no. That would be Audrey Hepburn.
