We actually do. There's a huge demand for it, and since there is no industry in DC, the river is undeveloped parkland for miles in each direction.

Clodfobble 09-13-2014 02:42 PM

Nice looking log. It's exactly the kind that I wouldn't want the kids to go across, but would know in my heart that their dad was right to let them try it. (Unlike other risks, where I would feel quite certain that it was a bad idea no matter what.)

glatt 09-13-2014 04:12 PM

I didn't go over the log. I took the foot bridge that was 20 feet away.

A few years ago, the bridge was out, and the log was the official way across, and I did it then. Successfully, I might add, but I kept thinking how if I fell just the wrong way, I'd break something and be a couple miles from the nearest road.

Took my 2 weekend charges to the park for awhile and was playing around with my new Canon EOS M mirrorless and a new lens, the Canon 40mm pancake lens. Not the best choice for impromptu portraits but it worked out ok.

Later I played with the images in some different editing programs, LR and PS and also one for portrait work; B&W seemed the best way to go with those bright colors. Here is what I got. Keep in mind Emily is 5 and Sarah is 7... Maybe I made them look a bit too much like pre teens with the sultry looks! Oh and I had to clone one of Sarah's front teeth over the one that fell out last week! ;)

xoxoxoBruce 09-17-2014 10:44 PM

But now you don't have a picture with the tooth missing. :haha:

Are you happy with the mirrorless camera?

BigV 09-18-2014 10:15 AM

Look at the third picture for the missing tooth.

chris, not to take anything away from you as a photographer--I think you're great--but your granddaughters are just plain lovely. I bet their passport photos are cute. Just sayin.

Thanks, they haven't traveled with the Mrs and myself yet where they would need passports but the parents have plenty of pictures of them from me up on their walls.

I love when I take them to the grocery store and people say "they look just like you!" I smile and thank them and am amused because we are not related by blood.

On the other hand. I made a phone call to a girl thats calls me uncle. I've known her since she was 6 years old. Anyway she posted this somewhere and her aunt sent to me.

Nice to know that you've made someones day.

Just got one of the best Christmas gift ever a phone call from an uncle that i ain't seen in years . Telling me I'm still his baby girl . That meant so much to me better then any gift that money could buy. That's what Christmas is to me. Love of family and friends . Not the gifts lights or trees . I may not get to be with everyone i want to on Christmas but i know they love me and i love them. I will be thinking of you all. Have a very merry Christmas everyone . I know i will . Live laugh love.

I had some questions for my gran daughter. Whom I hadn't seen for around 2 years. This was her reply.
"The James Madison is a homeschool program. I started in the 10th grade. I had friends from school doing it, so I decided to so I could graduate early. The Miss Hattiesburg was for people all over MS. It was a prelim pageant for the Miss Magnolia State Pageant.
The trip overseas was a scholarship program. 50 high school students all over the United States went. We flew from New Jersey to Barcelona, Spain, went all over France, and then to Italy! We also went to Monaco and Vatican City! Vatican City was beautiful and amazing! We went all through the Vatican and Sistine Chapel."
She's also on dean's list for fall term at jr. collage, and won the Miss H-burg contest. Not that I had anything to do with it.

BigV 01-14-2015 09:04 PM

WOW!!!

Outstanding, and beautiful. She's the complete package, eh buster?

Hebe's Rome/Italy/Greece trip is having difficulty getting a chaperone (trip is free for chaperone). A female one. How's your wig and make-up collection?

She requested me not to volunteer of I'd be it in a flash..... :(

xoxoxoBruce 01-17-2015 05:51 PM

Bummer, monster, can't you beg, threaten, or bribe her?

monster 01-17-2015 05:59 PM

Nah, this is her big senior year freedom trip. I get it. As a stay-at-home parent I've chaperoned pretty much every trip there is, especially overnight ones, because there are so few people who have the time. I'm really not a helicopter parent/party-pooper, but just knowing your mom is there and other kids knowing that's your mom can put a downer on it, no matter how cool she is ;)

I'll only volunteer if the trip won't happen otherwise.

xoxoxoBruce 01-17-2015 06:07 PM

I know the feeling, my mother was on every trip for school and 4-H. The other kids do treat you differently.

She has also been inducted to Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society! What ever that means?
She also told me that she had been diagnose with Dysauntomia. What ever in hell that is. I smell bull shit, but what do I know?

Clodfobble 01-22-2015 11:00 PM

Did you take any pictures, buster?

xoxoxoBruce 01-22-2015 11:12 PM

Dysautonomia is an umbrella term used to describe several different medical conditions that cause a malfunction of the Autonomic Nervous System. The Autonomic Nervous System controls the "automatic" functions of the body that we do not consciously think about, such as heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, dilation and constriction of the pupils of the eye, kidney function, and temperature control.
Doesn't sound like fun but her case may be manageable.

Last week my son who lives up in Alaska came south for a visit. It was the first time we got to see our newest grandchild (#15). Augustus was a big baby at birth and at 5 months weighs just over 20 lbs putting him in the 97% range at his last pediatric check up. Good kid, he hardly ever fusses and other then waking up for a feeding or 2 from his mom sleeps through the night.

I shot this on our coffee table in our family room which I converted into a mock studio.

The sun finally came out after what seems like a whole lot of rainy weather. So I took my new Canon 7D MkII to my grandson's track meet and got some decent shots of him doing the Triple Jump. The camera can shoot at up to 10 fps so it's a great camera for action. I mostly used my 70-200mm f2.8 lens.
