Treasure Hunt 12

5 categories, enter up to one picture for each.

How you interpret the category is up to you.
How voters interpret the category is up to them.

Whether voters pick photos with the most technical expertise, the wittiest interpretation of the category or the best post production polish is up to them.

No archive pictures allowed -you must take and post your masterpieces between now and 11:59:59.99 PM eastern on Sunday, August 15th 2010.

The Entrant with the most category wins wins, in the event of a tie, the one who has the most total votes, then earliest entry gets the honors. Prize is to pick the categories for treasure hunt 13.

There are no limitations regarding pre or post production enhancement, red eye removal or photo editing, provided YOU took the pictures of all the elements included in the shots, and YOU do all the digital manipulation.

Here are your words:
1. Curve
2. Texture
3. Boundary
4. Night
5. Peaceful

Looking forward to it.:thumb:

Curve - Vicky, where'd it go ?

Rhianne 08-07-2010 07:24 AM

Peaceful

This is the 'new' bridge, it's kinda dull. The old bridge was made of bits of rusting iron and had real character but it was slowly dismantling itself and was a little scary to cross, it seemed to make different complaining sounds, creaking and groaning, every time you used it. Still, it was quite sad when it was gone, even my teenage daughter misses it. This is what we have now though and it's still a lovely, peaceful place.

You can see the village where I live just over the small barley field, my own house is out of shot to the top right beyond the beech leaves.

glatt 08-07-2010 07:27 AM

Oh, that's good. I like bridges. They make good subjects.

glatt 08-08-2010 09:41 AM

It's looking unlikely that I'll be contributing to this hunt. We head out on vacation in the morning, and I have a lot to do before then.

Gotta quick question regarding the term 'archived'. Does this mean we can't use photos that are, let's say, 8 months old or that we can't use photos that have already been posted and are in the Cellar's archives?

Gravdigr 08-09-2010 02:08 PM

You can use a picture of an eight month old, but you can't use an eight month old picture. Perhaps you could retake the pic?

classicman 08-09-2010 02:43 PM

The idea is for YOU personally to take a picture during the time allotted.

You can only use photos you took since you read the categories.

I'll have to wait for another blizzard to drop a 36" snowfall to properly replicate that pic. Oh well!

Bridge makes a nice predicate as well.

Great shots Rhianne!

xoxoxoBruce 08-10-2010 11:35 AM

Rhianne, I love both you shots. In Boundary, I don't understand why the fence is up against the wall? Do you know if it's to keep the animals from rubbing against the stone?

Yabbut...

Did you go back to Dayt-uhn?

Rhianne 08-10-2010 01:59 PM

I have no idea about the fence Bruce but the sheep or cattle that are likely to have been in the field generally quite like rubbing up against the walls. The fence is old but it can't be older than the wall which seems to have been repaired, in history, with differeent methods and varying levels of success - parts of it look very unsafe. Perhaps the fence was put up at one time to protect the field's inhabitants from the danger of knocking the wall over!

classicman 08-10-2010 02:03 PM

I think Bruce may have been thinking along the same lines -
Sheep or cattle rubbing against it may may the stones in the wall lean over time to the point of the wall coming down and the herd getting out or predators getting in.
Oh and yeh - more dangerous for the stupid humans.

Almost forgot - Love the Pic!

You're texture image is excellent as well.

Rhianne 08-10-2010 02:29 PM

Thanks for the comments everyone, I've really enjoyed these competitions even though I only have a silly little camera these days. I do have some decent equipment up in the attic but who wants to mess about with film now? Perhaps I should invest...

classicman 08-10-2010 03:52 PM

Its not easy finding film nor places for developing. At least round these parts
One in MD another one in SEPA and one in SNJ

Thunder over Michigan Sat. :p: Time travel, tha knows..... 2010 show was this weekend

Shawnee123 08-10-2010 05:25 PM

Ohhhh, I just knew it had been at the Air Force Museum (I recognized it) and you were there last year.

I should know better. You all like the planes, like I do.

I really didn't know the rule so was surprised when you said when it should be taken. Then I went back and read the rules. ;)

Anyway, it's a fine shot of a neato plane!

 It's a B17 -the "Movie Memphis Belle" -i.e. not the original Memphis Belle, but the one they used in the movie. There are about a dozen in the world that are still flyable, and eight of them were in the air at once at the airshow. They were some of the planes made at the Willow Run Factories where "Rosie the Riveter" came from. Willow Run Airport is where Thurnder over Michigan is held :)

Rhianne 08-14-2010 09:11 AM

I can't get the 'Image Insert' thingy (or any of the other buttons) to work. Am I just an idiot or is something wrong?

classicman 08-14-2010 09:21 AM

dangerous question to ask here. :P:

If you are attaching an image using the http://cellar.org/images/editor/attach.gif there must be some text (even just a ".") or you cannot post.
If you are using the http://cellar.org/images/editor/insertimage.gif
then you are linking to a place on the web. IF the image is on your comp use the former - if its on a flickr type site use the latter.
good luck

Rhianne 08-14-2010 10:32 AM

Thanks Classicman, I couldn't get anything to work at all other than basic text but a cookie clearout seems to have fixed things.

Rhianne 08-14-2010 10:34 AM

So back to the competition, I planned to enter 'Black Cat in a Coal Cellar at Night' where I would post a photo taken with the lens cap still on, but in the end I’ve decided to submit this one of some local shale bings:

Since the voting threads aren't up yet, I'm just going to go ahead and post some entries. I didn't remember any of the categories when I was off on vacation, but I think I found some images that fit the categories.

Here's "peaceful" to kick things off.

Sunrise on the balcony at the lodge on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Here's "boundary." A cattle guard to keep cows on the proper side of the fence.

And finally, "night" in Springdale, Utah. Just outside of Zion. The blurs are from a passing tram heading up to the park.
