Zara Blunder

Unless you've been living under a rock today, or don't have a whole heap of socially conscious people on your social media feeds, you'd know about this story regarding the used of blue and white stripes and a yellow star on some childrens PJ's.

My argument is that the company has removed the line, at great expense, and they've apologised. What are people still going on about? Am I missing something? What else do people require? I mean seriously, should someone be fired for not realising they're offending a group of people, unintentionally (giving the benefit of the doubt).

I didn't realise it was offensive till I read the article. My first thought when I saw the picture was that the pj's were cute. I always thought it was the star of david which was used, not a yellow one, and I don't recall ever seeing a colour photo of anything to do with the holocaust. If I can make that statement in all honesty, then why is it so hard to assume that many others would too?

I don't know what they're still going on about; but, I wouldn't put any gold stars on blue and white striped cakes for awhile.

I wont. They will probably gas me in my own oven.

(sorry, too soon?)

Clodfobble 08-27-2014 08:05 PM

Ha! And it's not even the first time this has happened for Zara.

Yes, i read about the swastica handbag issue.

Do you think they have someone working there who is secretly trying to ruin them?

Clodfobble 08-28-2014 06:56 AM

I don't know... A big company like that, surely more than one pair of eyes has to see and approve the various design choices. The swastika was small, I can see someone missing it, especially if the photo were angled the right way, and honestly I wouldn't have associated the sheriff star PJs with the Jewish prisoner uniforms myself. On the other hand, two scandals of this nature seems unlikely. Once bitten, twice shy, you know? Hire a Jewish person in your marketing department, fer cryin' out loud.

Maybe it's something about the word "zara", whatever comes after it is offensive?

I had no problems with the swastika bags because the emblem was used in many cultures prior to Nazi Germany. Now the Juden uniforms went too far. BTW, it is still too early for gas oven jokes. Check my last name against the Lodz Ghetto rolls.
