12/18/2002: Dog fighting in Afghanistan

http://cellar.org/2002/dogfighter.jpg

Humans have been treated better since the fall of the Taliban, but apparently dogs haven't. Dog fighting has returned to Afghanistan as a sport. The Taliban banned it, as they banned all forms of sport and entertainment.

Shown above is the winner of a fight and I'm sure we don't want to see the loser.

Me and my friends were just talking about this though I didn't realize it was giong on in Afghanistan . God damn assholes how can they do that.

Hubris Boy 12-18-2002 11:04 AM

This is unconscionable. Aren't there supposed to be people starving to death in rural Afghanistan? Why are they using these dogs for sport, instead of eating them? Somebody tell the Afghanis to stop playing with their food!

Griff 12-18-2002 11:11 AM

I thought Toad would put this under Dream Jobs. ;)

Some local butt wipes in Binghamton got picked up for dog fighting. Being a shithead transcends the bounds of culture.

juju 12-18-2002 11:31 AM

Eh, they're just dogs. If they really were being abused so badly, they would escape! Besides, it's not like they have feelings.

xoxoxoBruce 12-18-2002 03:30 PM

Well, at least they treat their dogs better than they treat their women.

jaguar 12-18-2002 04:15 PM

props to bruce and hubris boy for giving me my morning laugh.

Personally i think it's all a big conspiricy by the US Govt to crush afgan innovation. The truth is the Afgans have managed the dog breeding holy grail of a vegetarian dog and this dodgy bastard was caught with his nose in the rasberry bush. Propaganda at it's worst, disgusting.

Uryoces 12-18-2002 06:55 PM

Well, it's an animal that most of us would ascribe kinship and feeling for (no ofense, juju), so this activity is viewed a cruel. I sure as heck don't like it, but then there are tribes in Papua New Guinea who view my Denver omelette as vile, i.e. eating the unborn.

Treating anything, animate or inanimate, with callous disregard says a lot about our character. I will grant that these people proabably love and are proud of their little fighter, but I do not like this one bit.

Slavery

Somehow I figured this would bring back the pets-slavery thread. But I guess we would treat our slaves better than this.

Cochese 12-19-2002 05:24 PM

mmmmmmm...Denver omlette....

Uryoces 12-19-2002 05:40 PM

Beth's 12 egg omelette ... mmmmm ...

Note: You share it with friends :D

And how do you know if they do or not?

juju 12-20-2002 10:02 AM

Ah. Just like God, the burden of proof is on you to prove that they do exist (dog's feelings, that is).

Doesn't sound like you do either.

Torrere 12-21-2002 01:31 PM
