So? How did you like the ending?

lumberjim 05-21-2019 01:05 AM

Underwhelming then?

glatt 05-21-2019 06:30 AM

What did you think, Jim?

I haven't seen any episodes other than when I have been in a hotel room and flipped past it. But I get the sense that like most finales, fans were meh.

Happy Monkey 05-21-2019 08:19 AM

I thought it was a good ending, but they had trouble earlier in the season getting to it in a satisfying way.

Which, I gather, is something GRRM is having trouble with as well.

I thought the last 3 episodes were lame. Arya sailing west came out of nowhere, the dragon just flying away, grey worm turning into a dick head, Dani becoming a tyrant for no reason..... Just like hm says.

Gravdigr 05-21-2019 09:57 AM

I read some of the books, haven't seen any of the show.

I've read the ending left some ppl a little bit WTF?...

Martin remains as resolute as ever: His ending is coming. In a post published on his blog Monday, he assured readers that work continues on The Winds of Winter, though he knows better than to set a deadline. And he noted how different his conclusion would be from that of the show, which only “had six hours for this final season. I expect these last two books of mine will fill 3,000 manuscript pages between them before I’m done.” He mentioned characters from his books who never even got introduced on-screen, and the resulting “butterfly effect” that would set his ending apart.

First time I have visited this thread.
This five minutes now provides about 75% of the time spent on the whole endeavor.

I liked the ending for John Snow and Sansa. The North remains free. Dani was a tyrant in the making from day one but I don’t know if that’s more obvious in the books? It’s always a flip of the coin and John was the good side. They wasted the Bran story line but at least he can reach out to the dragon and cause trouble down the road. Arya got a poor finish.

lumberjim 05-22-2019 11:40 AM

yeah, why didn't Bran Warg the dragon and put a stop to the razing of Kings Landing?

Griff 05-22-2019 05:16 PM

I think up until the crowning Bran was supposed to be an observer of all things but that seems weak.

lumberjim 05-22-2019 06:37 PM

Yeah, he's the character you start the story following, if I recall. Made sense that he'd be king, but he should have had some part in the battles.

They abbreviated it so badly. The pin prick death of the winter king and that entire conflict was bologna, and the battle at kings landing made no sense on several levels.

Did you notice Aaron Rogers' cameo? And see him trash the finale?

It's the perfect setup for the spinoff. It'll be Arya's madcap adventures traveling around the Western Sea, bopping from island to island, like The Enterprise or Jupiter 2 bopping from planet to planet, meeting new whacky cultures/peoples/species every week.

She's basically following the example of her childhood hero Nymeria.

Plus, maybe the faceless men aren't as accepting of her defection as it seemed, and she's putting a few miles between them.
