Random Parenting Moments

I couldn't find a thread that seemed right so.....

Beest would have been so happy and excited that one of the sprogs is starting to play Dungeons and Dragons. And he would have laughed his arse off at which one....... neither of us would have predicted this.

Of course, first thing she did was buy a set or two of pretty dice ;) Our online conversation went something like this.....

well when I find Daddy's dice you can use those if you like, that might be nice
oh yes I'd like that
but in the meanwhile you can borrow mine if you want. In fact you can keep the turquoise ones.... and a few other spares I have that will make you a full set. Or you could just get some online, they're not too expensive. You could go to local game store to get some, but way cheaper online and much more choice. Look here's a nice turquoise swirly set for $X.
Those are nice
...or there's this kind of thing. Or this. All of these sets have the 7 dice you need really.
Oops i just bought those turquoise ones, they're so pretty. :D
I wonder if you can get tiny dice, seeing as you like tiny things. Then you'll have nice tiny things even if you decide you don't like D&D. Oh look, yes you can, here are some just like the ones I showed you before, only tiny. ......Oh, you bought some already? OK Nevermind...
oops, just bought the mini ones too, they're so cute

I hope she checks for traps before she opens the packages

lumberjim 09-06-2018 07:33 PM

i'm not sure she knows how oops works

monster 09-06-2018 08:38 PM

There should be condoms for "Check Out Now" buttons to avoid such oopses?

Clodfobble 09-06-2018 10:09 PM

That's awesome! Does she have a crew to play with at school?

monster 09-06-2018 10:16 PM

She has a friend group who have game nights and one of them has decided the non-initiates are ready to move away from boards and cards.... said individual is a grad student. Strangely enough the gaming group beest introduced me to was also led by graduates grasping at the few remaining wisps of not real adult life.... ;)

monster 09-06-2018 10:16 PM

(I was so shit at it, it was painful, but I liked the dice :) )

xoxoxoBruce 09-07-2018 01:25 AM

That's hell of a lot better than, Got go Mom, talk to you sometime ...later... maybe.

Random parenting moment #45

SonofV texted me very late last night saying that he FUCKING loves me and that he's SUPER DRUNK.

I para-spell to preserve the anonymity of his textthumbs endrunkenicity.

I was touched. :sniff::)

monster 09-08-2018 11:53 AM

you're his best pal :)

(and he didn't follow up with "also I'm at the police station and I need to to fetch me and post bail")

Clodfobble 09-08-2018 02:49 PM

Aww.

Right, the bail request often follows such outpouring of affection. :haha:

monster 09-08-2018 10:22 PM

well it used to from my mother, although it was the cops who mentioned the last bit.....

 Go, go Girlchild!

Gravdigr 09-11-2018 05:15 PM

It's nothing short of a miracle that a game that's not played on a screen has survived this long.

monster 09-11-2018 06:21 PM

we have a floor to ceiling cabinet of board and card games that are played regularly. As does my sister apparently. I just donated Buckaroo and Mousetrap to the thrift store, I think..... Figured we were probably done with them

Clodfobble 09-11-2018 08:07 PM

If you're looking to add more, I can highly recommend King of Tokyo. :)

Griff 09-11-2018 08:14 PM

Y'all probably play Catan, how about Pandemic?

I like Illuminati, by Steve Jackson Games. It was recently updated, so I don't know what changed.

That was the last game I bought beest. We used to play it in college. It didn't change all that much. Sadly we only managed to play about half a game, but the kids were intrigued. We mostly learned most of the rules we played in college were the drunk student rules

:) I love dice. I may have accidentally bought some too. maybe.

I love reading about them being found in archaeological excavations. One of my nicest pottery pieces is an enlarged replica of an ancient D20. This is about 6" in diameter. And hollow. I know, I digress.... sorry

limey 09-30-2018 02:24 PM

That's lovely Monster!

Parenting moment from a week ago;
Lil' Griff hosted our family Thanksgiving on Saturday because she had to work Thanksgiving. She splatchcocked a turkey with all the fixings and Lil' Pete made pie. I am pleased with what has been wrought.

Ha! Brilliant. Laughing aloud in an empty house.

Gravdigr 12-03-2018 02:59 PM

Way TL;DR

Random:

Got news that SonofV is in the ER again post seizure. Nice thing about being in the ER is that shit gets done, services come to YOU. In this case a neurologist and a list of primary care physicians. Now that his health insurance is active for him in his current location, he's able to get access to these resources. Which will get him a diagnosis, leading to a prescription, leading to actual medicine, leading to seizure suppression.

I have a lot. I have much to be thankful for. Being grateful, being aware and mindful is the entrance to the path to happiness. I want to be happy, so I open my eyes and spirit to see the way.

xoxoxoBruce 04-06-2019 12:56 AM

Glad he's being taken care of. :thumb:

Griff 04-06-2019 07:53 AM

I'm glad he's getting what he needs.

Gravdigr 04-06-2019 11:52 AM

Sorry to hear about yet another seizure, but like the others said, I'm glad things are looking up on the health care tip.

That is an outlook to aspire to, my friend.

BigV 04-06-2019 04:41 PM

Thanks friend.

It is definitely aspirational. Aspirin to, perspire from, expire anyhow.

There's a lot of parent stress still. That attitude, known in the vernacular as "denial" innoculates me to some degree from the stress.

Sorry your Son is sick V. You will persevere, and everything will be all right.

The inch is inch plus 72 these days.

Today he crushed a sando with the boys and went to praccy. He is on a MTB race team. He loves it.

We serviced his upper and lower forks. Fourth time was a charm. When we were wrapping g it up I asked him what advice he’d offer to someone who was going to service his forks for the first time. “Actually read the instructions.”

So, we learned something.

Instructions are good as a last resort. If you tried 3 times before caving in and reading them, then I'd say you did your due diligence on the man front. Glad to hear you're raising the boy properly.
