Good Cop, Bad Cop

Here's a good one...

My buddy's dad was a state trooper and he told his kids he'd rather they smoked weed than drank. My buddy was surprised that his dad was a cop and condoning breaking the law. When he pressed his dad for an explanation his dad said, "I've never been on a domestic violence call where the people were just smoking weed."
RIP his dad, fuck cancer. |
HOUSTON - Newly elected District Attorney Kim Ogg unveiled her new Misdemeanor Marijuana Diversion program on Thursday.

Kathy Lanier was an outstanding police chief.
Unfortunately for DC, she retired from the force and moved over to head of security at the NFL. The mass arrests on Inauguration day, sweeping up innocent people who happened to be near the protests and reporters covering the protests has me a little concerned that they may be forgetting everything that she taught them. |
the tidal wave of forgetting the progress many have made has not broken or even crested. it's still rising.
|
I saw a thing yesterday where a 100 year old woman in a wheelchair requested to spend some time in a jail cell, because it was the last thing on her bucket list. Two cops helped her from her chair to the cell bench, handcuffed her, and let her stay as long as she wanted. I've never seen a bigger smile.:thumb:

The cops in Miami-Dade County park badly.

In the course of doing their jobs, cops are required to appear at the courthouse. There is obviously not enough parking available at the courthouse. Have you ever been to a courthouse? There is NEVER enough parking.
So the solution to really address the issue is to reserve a bunch of spots for cops. And if you really want to make sure it never happens again, there have to be a lot of those spots. Those "cops only" spots will be taken from the general public. I would be much more upset if I had business at the courthouse but was unable to get there because there is no available parking than I would be if I was able to find a spot, but walked past a bunch of scofflaw cops as I entered the building. Maybe they should build a $50 Million parking garage and give the cops and other city administrators the first floor. Now, I am not familiar with downtown Miami. Maybe there is already a parking garage and there are plenty of reserved spots for cops, and they park illegally anyway. If that's the case, fire them. |
Here they have reserved spots for the Sheriff's office which is right inside of the front door of the courthouse, and two parking garages, much of which is reserved for employees and cops. The guy in Miami took the reporter to the courthouse because finding them there was a sure thing every day. He also mentioned coffee and donut shops.

The difference is a reserved spot is a spot that was taken away from the public. But a legitimately illegal spot, (like in an intersection, in front of a hydrant, or in a crosswalk) was never a public spot in the first place.
|
But of illegal spots some are arbitrary, like 15 ft from a corner, bus stop, loading zone. Oh and handicapped spots I see them use a lot.
|
Absolutely. Those arbitrary ones are on sort of a sliding scale of seriousness in my mind. A bus stop that is blocked by an illegally parked cop car results in a bus stopping in the traffic lane to discharge passengers and it holds up traffic for 30 seconds or so. A nuisance, but not a danger.

Philly cop directing traffic in 1922, no gun, no nightstick, no safety vest.
|
He's a dead man.
|
You're right. It's 1922, and he looks to be pushing 40 - 45...
He's liable to drop dead any minute. |
This thread title reminds me of the phrase commonly used to excuse police departments after a bad cop is exposed; "It's just one bad apple". The whole phrase is "One bad apple spoils the bunch." It's a terrible proverb for them to use for the purpose they intend.
It's not just cops who do it, but you might say they're one bad apple in terms of misusing (or accidentally correctly using) the proverb this way. |

Philly cops always drove red cars with red lights until Rizzo became mayor in '72
|
...just haaad to be different.
|
They had always been red with red lights, but Frank Rizzo, the Police Commissioner from '67 to '71, hated it and fought with the mayor over it. His brother Joe Rizzo, the fire commissioner, agreed. So when Frank became mayor in '72 the Police cars became blue and white with red and blue lights.
|
Now they can sneak up on people while they protect and serve.
|
I'll be 50 yrs old this summer, if I somehow manage to not kill myfuckingself before then.
I've been to 35+ states. Most of those, multiple times. I've had an interaction, or two;), with da pohleeses here and there. I have never, ever, been in the presence of, or seen with my own eyes, a police car with red lights. On tv, yeahyeah, suresure... |
That's why the police commissioner and his brother the fire commissioner hated them so much.
I was up in MA on a nice straight smooth road with lanes about 15 ft wide and 6 ft shoulders, with no traffic. I saw a vehicle gaining on me with flashing blue lights and I moved over to the edge of the lane but not on the shoulder and didn't slow down. Around here flashing blue is volunteer firemen, red is fire equipment, and cops use red and blue sometimes with white added. In MA local cops use blue only. |
Here's body camera footage of a police chase and shootout in Vegas.
The bad guys ended up one dead, one wounded. The cop ended up with enough adrenaline in his system to affect his performance, and last for years. The short version... The long version just adds more chase... |
If this was a newspaper headline it would start with, Florida Man...

AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Moron. Fucking moron. |
Cop ought to have to pay for all that. Cruiser. Emergency response. All of it.
|
The wipers cameo was a nice touch, wiping away my tears.
Of laughter. |
What a Maroon!!!
|
All ya had to do was move the car. That guy needs to be something other than a policeman. Doesn't have the required decision-making skills.

Here's another good cop, as far as we know. I doubt it, but he could have stolen the wood and tools I suppose. The real problem is if he is bad, the other cops will cover for him.
|
Ya reckon he was on duty when he installed the ramp? Bad neighborhood?
Maybe before/after work, otherwise, why wear the uniform to install a ramp? Pretty rotten to steal from a handicapped lady. |
At first I was going to criticize the ramp because it's too short and steep, but on second thought, it's only a temporary one so that's fine, I guess. And I really like that not only did he install horizontal treads to keep somebody walking on the ramp from sliding, had made them short enough that the wheels of the wheelchair will fit around them.
Nicely done. |
I liked that too, but, I was thinking of the chair pusher, if it wasn't 'lectric.
