Hmm. I'd never even heard before that it was a factor. Nipped that right in the bud.

meanwhile, the BBC describes a meta-study (sumamry of 7,000 other studies) which finds you can reduce your risk of cancer by following the these recommendations:
  1. Keep your BMI in the lower end of the "healthy 18.5 - 25 range
  2. Limit red meat
  3. Limit alcohol
  4. Avoid bacon, ham, and other processed meats
  5. No sugary drinks
  6. No weight gain after 21
  7. Exercise every day
  8. Breastfeed children
  9. Do not take dietary supplements to cut cancer

Somehow smoking isn't mentioned! Neither were sun exposure, or other environmental hazard like radon, asbestos, and such. I guess that this is only because this survey looked at diet and cancer. So it's pretty flawed in this respect.

But then they 'fess up with this doozy, buried low in the article:
Quote:

However, two-thirds of cancer cases are not thought to be related to lifestyle, and there is little people can do to prevent the disease in these circumstances.
Still, of 10 million cases per year world wide, maybe 3 million are related to lifestyle, and can be prevented. I think I'll be cutting my risks, if I can.

  4. Avoid bacon, ham, and other processed meats (esp. if they look like they need money or a ride home)
  5. No sugary drinks (see alcohol response)
  6. No weight gain after 21 (uh, 21 pounds, right? )
  7. Exercise every day
  8. Breastfeed children (even if I don't have any? :thepain: )

Well I was wondering how I am supposed to breastfeed, too.
At least my (hypothetical) children won't be obese. Be lucky if they live long enough to get cancer.

The Health Industry's 10 Commandments.

Holy crap, that list is even more restrictive than the 10 Commandments in the bible (Adultry schmaltery!).
