Lately I have noticed an intermittent blinking of my wireless light and modem lights when no one is on the computer.

I have since been checking the DHCP client list for my router.

This one is a continual.

sending ACK to 192.168.2.7

It's not my ip apparently it's a wii. How do I know if it is my wii and why does it appear when no one is on the wii?

I know about entering the mac address to the security info for my router and have not done it yet.

I am assuming once I do and can stop public broadcasting this ramdom acking will stop?

I tried unclicking that public broadcast option but am unable to connect the laptop without it.

I do have a firewall that is monitoring the router as well.

Does the wii server just continually talk to the router?

ACK is a harmless ACKnowledge. "Are you there?" "Yes"

Turn off your wii. If there is still ACKing going on, it's somebody else's

I'll check it out but I bet the Wii is ON. I know the wii has an encrypted key so I am sure you are right on all counts.

I would not have noticed except that my modems lights blink in my eyes at 4 am.

Using my internet for wii is ok except it interferes with my sleep and the fact it is a security hole. Using my internet for downloading porn say, would not be ok.

Other than that I don't care who the fuck is watching as long as they let me sleep!

I find the Wii a little annoying when it comes to turning it off. You can't turn it off with the remote, you can only put it into standby mode. And to turn it off at the console itself, you have to press and hold the power button for several seconds.

I discovered this when I accidentally touched it once when I thought it was turned off, and it was very warm. The power indicator LED was orange instead of green, so I thought it was off. But you need to press and hold the power button to get the LED to turn to red to show it's off and then it won't be warm to the touch anymore. I wonder how much power it uses in standby mode instead of when it's off? You can always turn it back on again with the remote, so I don't know why there even is a standby mode.

Yabbut, no one really cares if you're looking at pron either, do they? My mom said something about some official was caught with pron on his computer. I told her that he probably violated work policy, but adult pron isn't illegal. Thank god. ;)

Put some electrical tape over the little lights on your router.

I didn't know that about the wii, I assumed orange light was the lowest power standby mode.

I bought an APC UPS last year to go with the new desktop, it has a Master socket and controlled by Master sockets( which makes me LOL as Slave is obvioisly not PC). You plug in your PC to the master and the UPS detects if it is on by the current flow, it then automatically turns off the controlled sockets when the PC is off, Monitor, speakers, printer, which are useless with out the PC but would otherwise be draining a little power in standby mode.
I see power strips with this feature now too, I think it would work for the TV, wii, cable box and DVD player cannot be used without the TV so might as well be 'unplugged' when the TV is in standby.
How much do you save relative to the cost of the device, I don't know, but it's reducing carbon footprint and such.

Of course they could all just be plugged into a power strip with an off switch. :blush:

I wonder how much energy we'd save (individually) if we unplugged everything that has a standby mode when we are asleep or at work.
