July 3, 2007: Bouyantly-billed bird
http://cellar.org/2007/smilingbird.jpg
This one's just goofy. According to Nat Geo, this rare smiling bird is "the rare recurve-billed bushbird", spotted recently in Colombia after a 40-year absence. Its curved-upward beak gives him the illusion of a smile, but we prefer to think he's just happy to see us. This is in fact the first time this bird has been photographed! So it's a really rare beast. |
He's ready for his close-up.

UT -- good job maintaining the alliteration.
|
Tomorrow, we need a patriotic, alliterative IotD... I'm sure UT won't disappoint us...! . . . "Fantastic Frickin' Fireworks!"? "Human Hotdogs"?
|
The IotD is worldwide so it would be inappropriate to use it to celebrate the holiday.
plus iotd images usually circulate a day or two after an event |
Just one question: Original or extra crispy?:headshake
|
What's the big deal? I've seen lots of peckers that curve up. lol!!!
|
Dat ain't no banana, dat's my nose!
|
That is a horrible picture..
It looks like a 5 year old hacked it together in Paint. The eye looks hokey. The glare off the head. The glinting beak. The blurry nondescript background that could be anybody's back yard. I think we're being scammed. |
