For those to lazy too click on the link, it says the Mayflower wasn't the first bunch of Pilgrims.
There's a lot of oversimplification in history. Especially in the settling of America. There was a huge celebration of the Jamestown anniversary a couple of years ago, and nary a mention that up in Popham Maine, settlers established a far more successful settlement the same summer. The Popham settlers were so successful, they managed to build their own ship to get themselves off this God-forsaken continent and head back home to the warmth and comfort of England. The ship that Popham colony built was used to help rescue the failure that was Jamestown, showing up with a hold full of food and supplies and workers to help save the Jamestown colony. The morons in Jamestown had settled in a brackish mosquito infested swamp and lost all but 61 of their 500 settlers, while Popham only lost one settler.
But let's all celebrate Jamestown.
