The ruling Taliban militia said Wednesday that an identity label they plan to force on Hindus will take the form of a yellow piece of cloth on the shirt pocket ...

This, of course, thrills me to no end.

I don't want to think about what comes next,

Just in time..

shrub sends a "gift of $43 million to the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan."

Perhaps we should have let the Soviets KEEP Afghanistan? The lesser of two evils it seems...

First, the Buddhist statues, now this situation with the Hindus, not to mention the punishments against women.

What's next? A superior Taliban race?

Funny how the Qu'ran and Islam as a whole would most likely NEVER support something like this. Although, the Catholic Church and WW2...never mind.

*turn off sarcasm*

Just on a minor technical point, does anyone know a way to suppress javascript opening new windows without disabling it entirely? The pop-up ads at the LA Times drive me buggy every time I read the Company Town section.

Norton Inet Security 2001 is what I use on Windows machine.. it's more or less customizable.. as far as what you don't want (ex block everything with a "&ad_" string).. that page doesn't give me any pop-ups (pop-up urls probably have some offensive code in em ;).

Agreed. It's really sad to see Islam constantly portrayed as "the religion of terrorists," when radicals like this make up a small- but <b>very</b> vocal- percentage of people who hold to this faith.

I have no issue at all with Islam- it's a fine religion, and the history of Jewish co-operation with Muslims goes back <b>far</b> longer than that of Jewish co-operation with Christians. But the radicalization of Islam of late is extremely distrssing and depressing.

It leads people to slander an entire religion,
Z

Yea, tell me about it. I mean i have no *real* problem with any religion, only when religion becomes before humanity. Things like the Catholic church using it muscle in France to disallow the handing out of the morning after pill in France high school (a country with a very high teenage-pregnancy level) because the catholic church doe snot endorse, that kind of thing shits me up the wall. Not to mention some of the stories that come out of Afghanistan.

Taliban order female foreign aid workers not to drive

Afghanistan's Taliban militia has ordered all female aid workers in the war-ravaged Central Asian country to refrain from driving, saying it is "against Afghan traditions."
Rest here.

Slight update

That "gift of $43 million" was used for ?

From article:

U.N. just condemned the Taliban for allowing the cultivation of an opium crop and benefiting from its sale!
