Philadelphia Champions!

Philadelphia Edges Denver in OT in MLL Semifinal

Downingtown, PA (August 11, 2007) – In an exciting thriller that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the Philadelphia Barrage defeated the Denver Outlaws 13-12 in overtime. The Barrage will advance to the NB Zip Championship Game tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. Roy Colsey scored the game winning goal for the Barrage en route to being named the Bud Light MVP of the game. Colsey also had five points (4G, 1A).

Does this count?

The Philadelphia Kixx won an MISL championship while I lived there...the Phantoms won the AHL championship too, IIRC.

Putting them on a footing with oh, say,.. Binghamton, NY population < 40K.:)

elSicomoro 08-27-2007 05:53 PM

How have them Yanks been doing in recent years? :D

Griff 08-27-2007 07:36 PM

The Scranton Wilkes Barre Yankees are #1 in their division I believe. ;)

When did they stop being the Red Barons?

There was some dancing around with the AAA affiliates this past year, I believe. The Phillies are now affiliated with the Ottawa Lynx, who are moving to Allentown next year.

Man, if the ping pong team could just take the title now, you guys would probably have people burning cop cars and looting downtown.

Nothing says Sportsmanship like a little celebratory rioting in the streets.

Ep, you reminded me of this...

I remember when the KC Royals were deciding on a new 7th inning stretch song earlier this summer, one of the talk show guys at KMOX here in St. Louis was encouraging people from St. Louis (and wherever he could be heard--KMOX is a 50,000-watt station) to vote for "Dancing Queen." It didn't win, but was in the final 4.

I love the Reading Phils, especially the Pool section. It's a little bizarre when the mascot gets in with you, though.

Yah, the Yanks came in this year. They're really loaded at the AAA level so there has been good ball there. Unfortunately, AAA pitching isn't MLB pitching so the big yanks are in trouble. They still need a 5th starter in the bigs now that Mussina and I have the same fastball. It's kinda sad to watch, he was so good for so long. I'm kinda expecting Matt DeSalva to be in the Saturday spot...

elSicomoro 08-28-2007 10:14 AM

I still don't understand why a pitcher that goes for 6 or so innings and has an ERA just under 4 is a hot commodity. Bob Gibson had a 1.12 ERA in '68. John Tudor pitched 14 complete games and 10 shutouts in '85...in one start, he went 10 innings.

Sorry, guys...I guess I just wasn't meant for these times.

Griff 08-28-2007 11:39 AM

I hear you, Gibson was a freak. They should raise the mound and drop the dh. They probably baby starters too much as well...

milkfish 09-30-2007 04:29 PM

You guys did beat the Mets fair and square, so Go Phillies!

xoxoxoBruce 09-30-2007 07:36 PM

Well, er, don't tell anyone... but just between you and me.... they had a guy in the outfield bleachers, videotaping the Mets catchers signs.
