The coolest arcade emulator... ever.

I mentioned this briefly in another thread, but it's nifty enough that I'm bringing it up again.

The emulator's name is DAPHNE (www.daphne-emu.com), named for the princess in Dragon's Lair. As the name implies, this is an emulator of the laserdisc arcade games of the 80's, with around ten games supported at this time in varying states of repair.

Downloading the laserdisc files in M2V format is nigh-impossible without some sort of broadband connection (USENET is your friend), as they run around a gigabyte or so apiece... but it's worth it just to see Cliff Hanger and Dragon's Lair running on arcade code one more time.

(If you have a DVD-ROM drive, you can skip the download for Dragon's Lair and Space Ace -- the DVDs are at many local stores, and they're easy to convert to DAPHNE standards. In point of fact, you should purchase the DVD whether or not you have a DVD-ROM player, if you're going to play it on DAPHNE -- it's the standard legality issue surrounding most emulator ROMsets.)

That looks prety good but is that a GENERAL ARCADE EMULATOR like Mame? (I reckon not)

What games can you play with this?? (It doesnt say on the page)

I havent ever heard of LASERDISK back in the 80s .. Interesting (The 80s was the beggining of things getting worse :()

I have a dvd version of Dragon's Lair at home. You navigate the game using the arrow keys on your dvd remote, just like you did with the joystick on the console game in the arcade back in the day.
