mah groove is being a little scorched by the anagram game on Miniclip. so far it has not only disallowed but ***d out "screw" and "mounted". Puhleeze! I'm British ...every word is a euphemism for something sex related -get a fucking life!

ZenGum 05-25-2010 07:19 AM

hee hee she said "euphemism".

monster 05-26-2010 09:13 PM

The Media using the word impact when the mean affect. I try to keep my grammar nazi setting to low, but sometimes.........

aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

TheMercenary 05-26-2010 09:15 PM

Ugggg. I keep hearing "scrum" in the lexicon of the media whores, I want to bring them to a game and put them in the front row with 300 pound props and teach them not to use that term...

lumberjim 05-26-2010 09:23 PM

i thought you said 'scum' and it took me a while of reading back for context before i re read your post and remembered that you're the Rugby guy, and scRum is what they call it when they all get together for a quick cuddle before a play starts.

Not even close to correct.

TheMercenary 05-26-2010 09:38 PM

We have had a number of womens teams mimick the Canadians on that one, and they have all made a good bit of money. Good on them.

Great shot btw.

I bet that impacted their finances

TheMercenary 05-26-2010 09:49 PM

Well they made a shit load of money off the sales.

ZenGum 05-27-2010 08:26 PM

LOL at UT's pic. Although those number eights aren't bound on properly.

Scrums are strange. I cannot understand how the necks of the front row players don't all snap immediately. I'm sure mine would.

Today my groove is being scorched by mosquitos and my killer procrastinations skillz

monster 05-28-2010 08:07 AM

and house-eating bees.

squirell nutkin 05-28-2010 11:52 AM

We could do a naked dwellar calendar to raise money for the cellar, but who would we sell it to?

Carpenter bees are most vexatious.

You have to admire their skillz though. Keep the wood dry friends...

Any advice? They seem to be under the eaves of bith ours and our neighbors' house --the houses are about 6 feet apart-- and we see sawdust on the plants below. We saw the neighbor and said , "hey look we have a joint ptoblem" and he said "oh yeah we've had it before, I'll have the mrs call the guy to smoke them out". great ...but then what? how do we stop the fuckers coming back again?

squirell nutkin 05-29-2010 09:32 PM

You can't. They drill a small ~10mm hole into your wood, they prefer unpainted wood, and they lay eggs or have sex or do whatever it is they do. Then the next year they come back from god knows where to the very same hole and do it all over again. The are persistent chaps.

The good news is the damage is a small ~10mm hole that doesn't go very deep. They don't cause structural problems like other critters and they aren't too keen on stinging.

We had a temporary roof over our porch for a year while we prepared for the addition being built. After we tore off the temp roof and built another story where it used to be, the bees kept flying around for days looking for the eaves that were no longer there.

But, whatever you do, don't get Mr. Jackson to come clear them out, as he never wipes his feet.

monster 05-29-2010 09:40 PM

Our eave is being pushed out, though -seems like they're building something under there....

lumberjim 05-29-2010 09:45 PM

i spray mine with hornet killer...... and caulk the holes

Undertoad 05-29-2010 10:23 PM

caulk!

Might not be carpenter bees. I've never seen big nests, but who knows? I'd call a pro.

zippyt 05-29-2010 11:02 PM

Dirt daubers !!

Pie 05-30-2010 08:14 AM

Sevin (carbaryl) and putty. Then paint. We had this problem last year.

Remember to let several days elapse between the application of the pesticide and the caulking -- you want them all to be exposed to it and wander off to die before you trap them in the wood (where they might do more damage.)

squirell nutkin 05-30-2010 12:04 PM

Or you can find a two and a half year old, like my daughter to help you. When we were first visited by the bees this spring I must have been whinging about them because I overheard her saying: "I'm a crocodile and I'm going to eat bad guy bees."

zippyt 05-30-2010 01:49 PM

I am absolutely enraged. I just found out that the physician's assistant at my local mental health clinic prescribed two medicines that counteract each other. This explains why I have been having such a bad time for the past 10 days. Unbelievable! I never would have caught it either if another member at my health forum hadn't mentioned it. I looked up the drug information on the two meds and sure enough! And I can't get in to see anyone for SIX WEEKS! Oh, I am beside myself!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I wonder if the magic words "malpractice suit" might get you a quicker appt. On the other hand, considering, maybe you're better off staying away as long as possible...

Bummer. I hate that shit.:(

some reason you keep poking at me, girl? (confused)

squirell nutkin 06-01-2010 11:41 PM

Uh, Cloud. I think that post was directed at ZippyT. If you go back and read his post about something scorching his groove that was then resolved you'll see the connection.

HungLikeJesus 06-02-2010 07:56 AM

But Cloud is interpreting that as Shawnee trying to control thread content, in a reference to the Drug Wars thread. But this is a footfootfoot thread, and footfootfoot has run oft oft oft.

ZenGum 06-02-2010 08:11 AM

So, for you folks watching at home, HLJ is replying to SN's reply to Cloud's question to Shawnee in a thread started by FFF by referencing Shawnee's behaviour in a thread started by Cloud - but stay tuned for shocking revelations about SN's dark secret and what really happened to F3!

Cloud 06-02-2010 08:41 AM

She is clearly responding to zippy, here, jokingly because he immediately resolved his computer issue in back to back posts.

jinx 06-02-2010 11:41 AM

Passive aggression is lame.

Shawnee123 06-02-2010 12:04 PM

I agree, I prefer regular aggression but it makes some people cry when you point out they are mildly shitty to people in TV threads, (y'all are lame) and "their" threads (boo-de-hoo quit talking in my thread.) Who needs more rain?

Now, here's an idea for a thread:

NAME HOW MANY KINDS OF IGNEOUS ROCKS YOU KNOW.

Fascinating shit.

Marble, granite, obsidian... uh, I'm drawing a blank. There are lots more.

squirell nutkin 06-02-2010 12:15 PM

Rock me Amadeus.

Shawnee123 06-02-2010 12:16 PM

glatt 06-02-2010 12:17 PM

I just Googled it, and I'm wrong with marble. Damn it to Hell. That's really scorching my groove.

That's OK. I don't take you for granite.

Griff 06-02-2010 06:17 PM

NPR is scorching mine. I studiously avoid all discussion of abortion with my Dad but when I drove him to my sister's house Tuesday Morning Edition had to run an abortion story... ranting ensued something about not executing the mentally ill but killing babies... I really tried not to engage.:mad2:

HungLikeJesus 06-02-2010 06:42 PM

Your dad thinks the mentally ill should be executed?

Who is he, the governor of Texas?

Griff 06-03-2010 05:33 AM

Apparently, there was a schizophrenic off his meds who pushed someone in front of a train. I think it was an old story with an update. Dad'd be happy in Texas.

Shawnee123 06-03-2010 07:26 AM

"Lots of respectable people have been hit by trains. Judge Hobbie over in Cookville was hit by a train."

Pete Zicato 06-07-2010 10:57 AM

Being a good athlete will get you a scholarship. Being a good student will not - unless you are also extremely poor.

Shawnee123 06-07-2010 11:02 AM

Excuse me, but...poppycock! ;)

Explore all your resources, employers, civic organizations...search online (I recommend starting here.)

We get LOTS of third-party scholarship students who excelled academically. You might not HEAR about it as much, due to the aforementioned fascination with athletic prowess, but they're out there. Not all scholarships are just 'given', students can do some legwork and find some pretty nice awards out there.

This has been a public service announcement. Now don't be mad at me!

:)

Pie 06-07-2010 11:07 AM

I got a very generous academic scholarship for my undergraduate degree -- paid all but room & board. And I was not poor.

Be an outstanding student, then pick the right school & pick the right field.

Pete Zicato 06-07-2010 01:07 PM

Well it certainly wasn't Z daughter #1's experience. She went through fastweb and a number of other sites. Submitted to dozens of scholarships and came up with nada. She was #10 in her class of 970 something. She did very well on her ACT scores. I dunno.
