And, Griff, it was 'The Cowboys'. Dern's character shot Wayne's, in the back, and Dern says that his career was derailed because of it.

Makes you wonder what kind of career he was expecting, cuz, I'm pretty sure Bruce Dern has had a pretty decent career.

If John Wayne dies in a movie, he is always shot in the back.

He probably wanted to be the heroic lead man. His career was playing mostly weasely cowardly sleazy villain types.

It's his teeth. They are kind of narrow in the front, like a rat. So he got the rat roles. Like Paul Lynde.

Just goes to show the value of orthodontia. It broadens your smile, so you can be a leading man/woman.
