Fourth Cellar Field of 64: Rock bands
you read it....
Who are they? (*of course this is a wide spec.... porn actors, political actor, humorous, drama actors, Are the actors man or woman?, do they make you think or emotive? could you watch an indie movie with no language you can understand and vote for that attempt)? |
wouldn't this be the 4th field of 64? or the 2nd 3rd field of 64?
|
Damn straight, LJ!!
the 4th call!! |
Traditionally we have suggestions for bracket fillers. Yay or nay
Lynyrd Skynyrd The Rolling Stones The Beatles The Allman Bros |
hhahahahahhahahahaha
ok, Marylin Manson |
It's bands anyway.
Nominate your favorite rock acts. The nominations are part of the seeding, so don't just list - take your top 10. If others have already mentioned bands you like, you can second them. Seconding goes into the seeding too. |
thanx,T!
Led Zeppelin Jimi Hendrix Experience The Grateful Dead Dave Matthews Band Jethro Tull Blues Traveler Aerosmith Jane's Addiction Pearl Jam Blind Melon ok....i'd better stop |
Zep seconded
Yes Genesis Rush |
Beatles seconded

U2 2nded Pearl Jam 2nded (can I 2nded twice?) ACDC Cold Chisel ..and the rest arent really rock or are too obscure |
(commercial music makes me
spray witch hazel on my hymroids and keyboard) You WANNA know the truth? "rock music = << This is useless for my "endeavors" to persuade the ignornant... but the greatest rock bands are:>> "seeding" sounds so Dirty Rancid Sex Pistols The Clash The Ramones Iggy Pop Stray Cats Los Lobos Carl Perkins Big Mama Thorton the Stones (ok, i sold out) (but the real KICKER was when Rock and Roll was created by spontaneous combustion under What created R&R, Hampton and the honking Illinois Jacquet *he rocked and rolled and begat a whole genre of music that was FORBIDDEN to be recorded during the wwII" check it out... you could not record rock and rolling during the mid '40's" (i think black and white people might have been surpressed back then, maybe some indians, too) |
Screw it:
YES (yeah, phenominal) |

Yes Genesis No Doubt Blondie The Cranberries 10,000 Maniacs Gryphon Talking Heads |
Pink Floyd seconded.
Jane's Addiction seconded. Black Sabbath Jimi The Doors |

I'm going to just bypass the whole discussion of what constitutes rock, and just give my picks.
The Police U2 Velvet Underground Blood Sweat and Tears Queen The Beatles The Jimi Hendrix Experience Coldplay (Just want to make sure that the contemporaries don't get overlooked) |
Police seconded
The Smiths The Church |
Comtemporaries: The Dresden Dolls
The great little band of the 21st Century. |
The Kinks
The Who The Grateful Dead The Velvet Underground Adrian Belew The Handsome Family (not rock exactly but my favorite band nevertheless) |
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden Judas Priest Type O Negative White Zombie AC/DC Lynyrd Skynyrd The Misfits Motorhead Stephen Lynch Stephen Lynch is a comedic singer, well-known to fans of the "Opie and Anthony" radio show. His songs touch on such diverse subjects as trans-sexuals, abortion, masturbation, anal sex, dead grandparents and bowling legends. Honorable mention - GG Allin GG's song "Automatic" is a great "couples" song. |

Can i puleeze PML @ Wham....sorry Cyclefrance (I do have their albums though) but I have decided you have good taste for an ...err...old guy :p
Duran Duran 2nded - saw them 3 years ago |
Sorry about the tears down the trouserleg - ur probably right about Wham, altho Georgie boy deserves a mention - and I shouldn't have listed so many, but getting up to 64 looked like a heavy task so there's gonna be a few lightweights in there that would doubtkess disappear quite quickly...
Surprising how quickly groups come and go though - there are quite a few from the 70's, 80's and 90's that I haven't mentioned but can add if necessary because of a shortfall - always steering clear as much as possible from New Romantics that will generally not fit in that well.... PS - at least I remembered INXS:p |
Also want to second for seeding purposes
Beatles The Who Rolling Stones Jimi Hendrix Aerosmith |
I do feel a bit bad that I forgot INXS, but shit happens.

I seconded "yes" I also sencond "Grateful Dead".... those whacky druggies went for years on tour with millions of fans.... AND with no "produced" albums... They only wanted quality bootlegs of their concerts. If i were to approach Garcia and ask them to sign my pirated copy(s) (unlike Metallica) they would. |

David Bowie and the Spiders from Mars Elvis Costello and the Attractions |

Time for two late arrivals?
ELO (Eledctric Light Orchestra) Eurythmics and for the obligatory group: James Brown and the Flames |
Nominations will remain open until there are no nominations or seconds for a while. Since the place is slow, there could be some folks who aren't reading all the threads, who would want to participate... as long as we don't get re-farked soon, the performance problems should die down soon.
|
U2
Duran Duran INXS Simple Minds |

Seeding might be a bitch though. |
seeding sounds dirty....
did I say that already? Buddy Holly inspired John Lennon and the early skiffle Quarrymen (including McCartney) .... so, i guess even though the Beatles and Stones raped the music field with "Britsh pop blues" OK second the bloomming bloodsucking bastard BEATLES (the stones would be a followup, but they just tagged alone and tried to be different) |
mmmmm..... talking of seeds.... how about the 3 seeds of the brit '60 rock movement.....
Yardbirds John Mayalls BluesBreakers Alexis Korner Set |
Second BluesBreakers
oh, yeah - Jefferson Starship nee Airplane Janis Joplin Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen (joke) Dianna Ross and the Supremes (we need to honor Mo' town, as well) |

BTW did ya see Eric Claptons Crossroads Guitar Fest (in Dallas,Tx) DVD? I thought it was a hoot in that it was a 3 day benefit concert for Alchohol Abuse... and Joe Walsh was one of the main head liners .... lol. |

The first 56 positions are set. The following bands have not made it. The first 8 seconds from this grouping will make the final positions in the seeding. To avoid one voter having too much sway, please do not nominate more than two bands from this list.
