I've been on a bit of a uk rap kick lately

Lil G loves to sing that! Brush yo teeth!

The really slow, deliberate tempo they chose makes it the most unlikely hit single ever.

And it never woulda been a hit single... and win a Grammy for Record of the Year... if Clint Eastwood hadn't put it in "Play Misty For Me", 3 years after it had been released.

But the rest of the story is... the record company offered to re-record it at a faster pace for the movie. Clint Eastwood said, no, that slow tempo is what I want.

Can you imagine this being a hit single today. No you cannot. In 1972 it was #1 for six weeks.

The upright bassist is Ron Carter and man those bass strings just ring out to me

It scores with every lovesick youngster who admires their crush from afar.
Today youngsters don't do that, they go for it.

Old Specials romp I have always enjoyed - a cover of an old old old song

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as you wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself

Louis Prima original version:

All ska'd up in the 60s:

Sometimes you forget how brilliant that is. Love the reaction, so heartfelt.

DanaC 10-12-2018 03:17 PM

Yeah. I think that's part of what got me so hyped on reaction vids. Rediscovering music that's so familiar to me it's become almost mundane,

Here's a change of pace:

A 2011 song from my favourite rapper

And one from 2015 - Take this one full screen. The lyrics flash across the screen interwoven with the images.
