Windows 10

So who got their little Windows 10 icon in their tray today?

BigV 06-01-2015 10:58 PM

Not I.

:(

sexobon 06-01-2015 11:46 PM

I got it [Get Windows 10]. I'm running 8.1 that I upgraded from 8.

From what I've read, this will be an invitation to reserve an automatic upgrade which will become available July 29th.

Scary huh.

ETA: I made the reservation. It will automatically download and notify me when it's ready to be installed.

I got one too. I'm on 7 ATM.

Anyone know anything about our new overlord?

Undertoad 06-02-2015 06:44 AM

I'm getting emotionally ready for the upgrade. It's hard because the last time I decided to just go ahead and trust Microsoft, I wound up with Windows ME.

I didn't see it until you said something about it.

I looked.

There it is.

Undertoad 06-02-2015 04:58 PM

People are saying the icon is adware or nagware and I suppose it is; but if you want it, and you have Win 7 SP1, Win 8 or 8.1, turn on Windows Updates.

It does allow us to reserve a free copy of Win 10 and that is a fair deal

It was a Windows Update that installed this icon/nagware/Win 10 reservation system... which is not really all that trustworthy... but it's 2015 and there you go. Everyone else has turned our devices and Internet services into payload for ads or paid services, so why not mother Microsoft?

Window's Update isn't trustworthy? Honest question, I really don't know. I assumed it was, since it came from the mother ship.

Undertoad 06-03-2015 10:23 AM

It's fine, but it is something we need to depend on, critical infrastructure, and so it's iffy that they use it to send along nagware.

I support Win-based solutions now and I have to instruct people to stop Windows Update for video wall systems.

Thanks Grav.

I have it too. I'm afraid of messing with it. Things are fine here as is.

I'm old and in the way... and I know it.

xoxoxoBruce 06-08-2015 05:24 PM

I don't have it but that's OK, 7 Pro allows me to run XP in a virtual so I can run outlook express. No idea what 10 will or won't do.

fargon 06-08-2015 05:34 PM

What is this Windows 10 you are speaking of? It must not be for Apple our systems just work. Till they break down.

Undertoad 06-08-2015 05:46 PM

These are not for you, these are for the systems that cost about half what yours cost.
