Introducing the Bombadier Embrio, the motor bike of the future!

It uses gyroscopic technology to balance itself and the rider on one wheel. The smaller front wheel acts as stability control when the Embrio is stopped or traveling below 12mph.

It will be powered by hydrogen fuel cells and we might see it in year 2025.

Discovered at High Tech

It looks cool and futuristic and all that, but how does it steer? Or brake? Unicycles have control through their pedals, but I don't even see where to put my feet on this thing.

Here we go. I should have looked before posting.

From Diseno-art.com we get more info about how this thing works.

Quote:

Bombadier drew on its experience with recreational vehicles when it came to design of the Embrio and it is intended for people who enjoy transport, this is evident in the styling and the necessity to lean into turns similar in a similar manner to a motorcyle rider.

The Bombadier Embrio is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell emitting only water as a by product driving an electric motor powering the main wheel.

Control of the Embrio is facilitated by a trigger control on the left handlebar for acceleration, and a trigger on the right for braking.

I found more info on GizMag.

Balancing Act

The riding position will be similar to a motorcycle with a complex series of sensors and gyroscopes balancing passengers on the single wheel. The rider activates a trigger on the left handlebar to accelerate and turns are made by shifting body-weight rather than actually steering.

When the EMBRIO concept is at rest in "stand-by configuration", the front wheels deploy to the ground like landing gear on a plane to increase longitudinal stability. The landing gear retracts when the vehicle speed reaches 20 km/h but even without the landing gear, the EMBRIO would be stable when motionless because of the gyroscope.

The EMBRIO concept's main power source is a hydrogen fuel cell and additional advanced technologies including a high-performance braking system, active suspension, night vision, a digitally encoded key and robotic assistance would be incorporated into the design.

Guess I got a little curious! ;)

Poorly, I would guess.

And it'll never see real world sales...for the same reason you can't buy a unicycle at Walmart.

Liability.

Want one.

Something like this is described in Against A Dark Background. Sharrow looks sexy on hers, but she'd look sexy with a pig's nose and a cucumber sticking out of her cooch.

Well, who wouldn't?

Bombadier always reminds me of the poem Timothy Winters.
It's Scottish and I know it my heart, but I did look it up to be sure I had the words in the right places.
This is the verse I mean.

Quote:

Old Man Winters likes his beer
And his missus ran off with a bombardier,
Grandma sits in the grate with a gin
And Timothy's dosed with an aspirin.
I'd love to meet a man called Tim Winters.
Gosh, how I'd bore him ;)

I give you Tim Winters

You really love me, don't you?

jimhelm 01-17-2013 04:23 PM

Indubitably

Someone finally invented something more impractical than the segway. Huzzah!

richlevy 01-17-2013 06:05 PM

Didn't Bombardier make some of the passenger rail cars for SEPTA (our local transit authority in Philadelphia region)?

Trilby 01-18-2013 04:17 AM

you can't get a week's worth of groceries with that thing! you can't even pick up your sick kid from school!

stupid.
