Somebody cut an accordion in half!

Gravdigr 03-25-2019 06:18 PM

Way to go beauregaardhooligan!!

It's a cut-away accordion.

goddangit I kept thinking it looks like a piano--I don't know why, I didn't even see the keys.

Interesting observation that it resembles a 'transmission line' loudspeaker enclosure. It's probably using a similar principle?

In the first pic it's lying flat. In the second, it's standing on edge.

It's ~3 and a half inches long, ~an inch and a half wide/tall, and ~a quarter inch thick. It's made of rubber.

It did not come off of Batman's batbelt.

Looks to me as if it might be a spacer in some sort of drive shaft or other mechanical gubbins which also absorbs vibration.

glatt 05-08-2019 01:29 PM

I feel like I've seen that before, but can't put my finger on it. This is a good one.

glatt 05-08-2019 01:44 PM

I'm thinking of a pool cue bridge, I think. Except I don't think anybody would make one out of rubber. Too grippy. And the shape is wrong too.

Flint 05-08-2019 03:16 PM

There's a rust-colored residue in a general oval shape around the three central holes, as if it attached to something that shape.

Are the inside of those three holes slightly gouged out by threads? So it bolts onto something.

Or in between something, like it's a rubber washer.

It's an anti-squeal damper for disc brakes.

I would've guessed a separator that electrical cables snap into so they're not close enough to damage each other or otherwise cause interference.

It's a double sided mute for some kinda stringed instrument, I'd guess a banjo.
Probably 2 different stiffnesses for different levels of muting.
...although I find this style more effective.

Gravdigr 05-08-2019 07:42 PM

The three central holes are for mounting purposes.

No one's gotten it yet.

I'll leave it up til tomorrow, see if anyone guesses it.

Footfootfoot would probably know what it is. Prolly. Maybe.
