net nanny

They're putting in a net nanny here today. i had to submit a list of sites i need for business. I put cellar dot org on it. they questioned it. i stood my ground. ......they questioned it again. i told them it was a friendship ender. they relented. so, i guess i wont be able to follow links, but i should be able to get on here.

A net nanny...in a car dealership?

Are you a branch of a much larger corporate entity, or is this more backlash over the recent shagging in the bathroom?

SteveDallas 03-16-2006 03:12 PM

Is she hot?

Oh, wait, not that kind of nanny.... never mind........

What exactly does this mean? That they can hassle you or possilby deny your access to the Cellar but your friendship with that person(s) would end?

*hit preview*

Maybe you meant that the Cellar ends friendships ( and somehow that is good for business there ).

I can just imagine the look on the IT guys face if I told him that.

IT Nazi: Yes, we have this new policy here and you see....I make my entire living keeping an eye on all the interaction with the employees and the net...so this is the new deal (slaps corporate form down on the desk ) Just sign it and STFU. Thank-you :)

Slang: Sure, would it be terribly unreasonable for me to take the 2 minutes that it might take to actually read that document that you are strong arming me into signing?

IT Nazi: Well if you would rather not sign the form, I'd certainly understand.....(picks up phone) Security? Can you activate the trap door under Mr. Slang's chair....just....about....NOW!

At one point I was seriously wondering if maybe IRS employees were retrained to work IT throughout corp USA.

Just another FPIMA with working for BIG companies.

Glad to hear that you stood your ground. Where are you planning to work next?

To Arm's, To Arm's

Don't blame the IT Nazis, err, staff. I know there are blatant exceptions, but most folks who work IT would prefer not to do stuff like this because it gets them involved in sticky areas they'd rather not deal with. Most often these things come from higher up, but of course IT gets to implement it.

Of course, this policy just as any other. In this case the IT staff gets to deal with the unpleasantries. Agreed.

The amount of systems, sub-systems, cameras, key loggers, and all the other security schemes that I'm not aware of get ridiculous.

All this is after a thorough background check, submitting a strand of DNA, stool sample, urine sample, hair sample and holding your favorite dog as a deposit for complete compliance.

Resistance is futile.

Most of all this crap is given to the IT staff to administer. The actual security staffs....that would be a different thread.

There was something else. I don't know what goobah is.

slang 03-16-2006 05:39 PM

Goobah must mean that "we're no longer friends because of your insistance on controlling every aspect of all things that I do here regardless of the seemingly small potential liability or loss of productivity"

Or maybe something else, who knows?

lumberjim 03-16-2006 05:51 PM

friendship ender = deal breaker

slang 03-16-2006 05:57 PM

Ok, so let me understand your situation. I'm probably not the only one having a hard time following this.

They allow you to access the Cellar, but without the links?

Or...they do not allow any access to the Cellar and you're taking that as a deal breaker for working there?
