Our Pagan Wedding

Just a simple hadfasting ritual, on the year-and-a-day anniversary of our official civil marriage. "Jumping the Broom" and all that, with vows that we wrote ourselves (well, I actually didn't write anything down, I spoke from the heart).

Funny thing was, my Baptist Step-Mother (EDIT) felt "uncomfortable" with it being a "Pagan" ceremony, and opted not to attend. This is funny because #1 my Father, her Husband, does not now nor has he ever gone to Church of any kind, or believe in any kind of religious dogma, and she is married to him, and #2 I've certainly never refused to attend a wedding because it was held in a Christian Church or involved a Christian ceremony.

I wasn't upset or anything, I just thought it was funny. We held a housewarming party which began at 4:00, and the ceremony was at dusk, if you chose to stick around. I wouldn't have cared if nobody was there for the ceremony. But, those that did attend were able to appreciate it for what it was, and were not troubled by thoughts of "Satan Worship" ha ha ha

When Mrs Elspode and I were first handfasted, three years before our marriage, my cognitively disabled son reported the proceedings to his very much self-righteous, typically hypocritical mother...all filtered through his rather serious perceptual and expressive dysfuntionality.

I got a phone call from her that started out with, "What's all this shit about someone walking around and waving a knife and a bunch of people saying stupid shit about a goddess!??"

It rapidly went downhill from there.

I know, El, we are such "bad people", right? :::burns in hell:::

Sounds like a cool ceremony, Flint. I have to admit to a tad bit of confusion, though -- is that your Father-in-law? Or is your father married to your wife's mother? :eyebrow:

. . . oh . . . It's my Step-Mother actually! oops

:::adds (EDIT):::

 Thanks for the clarification. <Insert W. Va. joke here>

You're all heathens and you're gonna burn in......Miami.:p

Elspode 05-17-2006 08:49 PM

Not me...I'll get my sunburns due to a lack of atmospheric filtration at altitude. I'm a mountain guy, myself.

I have several Wiccan friends and am a Buddhist and a follower of Christ (not a Christian) myself.
Most of my family are Christian, but my wife's family are...um... how does one describe Freewill Baptist? Extreme and conservative at the same time... rational they are not.
When I make things for my Wiccan friends and when my Buddhism comes up, especially in regards to my son, it does, indeed, get ugly... then I hang-up or leave.
And I really hang-up or leave. We told them that was what was going to happen if they were not civil and we actually get up from the table and leave or I, or my wife, just disconnects the call.
No subject is off-limits, if civil.
They seem to have a hard time with this, very confusing.
I don't even explain to them the origin of modern Christmas or Easter... I've been good!

Blessed Be your union this day
Together in this life till time parts your way
And on to the next place side by side you should stay
A light unto each other, forever we say

Wishing you a life filled with each others love.

Well, I can see why you divorced in the first place.
