10cc

Anyone here heard of 10cc? I don't know how to describe them, either you've heard them or you haven't.
(Dreadlock Holiday, I'm Not In Love, The Things We Do For Love... not their best songs by far, but their only hits in the states, as far as I know... DH may not even have been)

Undertoad 05-23-2006 10:36 AM

Well you've found one of the biggest 10cc fans in the US. I have all of their albums, as well as all of the works of Godley and Creme, including the rare original box set of Consequences on vinyl.

In addition, I used to own a "Gizmo", the guitar effect that Godley and Creme invented and then perfected during their time in 10cc. I sold it to Marty Willson-Piper (of the very fine band The Church) when I learned that his had died. (My guitarist still owns one, as well as a model for bass, believe it or not.)

Dreadlock Holiday was not a hit here, but you'll find a lot of people have a real fondness for the other singles.

YOU HAD A GIZMO?! Arrrrrgh, it is like, impossible to find them anymore...

If you like 10cc, you oughtta check out Tally Hall, they remind me a lot of 10cc.

The last two got a lot of airplay when I was in college. I thought I'm Not in Love was creative as well as listenable.

I enjoyed 'One Night in Paris' - one of my favourites off 'The Original Soundtrack' - have the vinyl 33.333 in the loft(attic) along with many others like Elton John Blue Moves, Beatles White Album and lots more - just sitting there....

I love 'em just got a bunch of my faves tunes onto my ipod...

it's weird that me and UT have such similar musical tastes, how about trans europe express?

I never really got into Kraftwerk, which is weird and probably just chance. Nowadays I like the sleek electronica.

How can anyone not have heard of 10cc?

One of the best and most lyrically gifted bands of the 70's. Three of them(Godley, Creme and one of the others) were originally 'hotlegs' who had a hit with 'neanderthal man'

I got to see them live. It was the version without Godley and Creme. They were technically flawless. The band numbered thirteen total, guitars, keyboards, horns and percussion (along with bass and drums, of course). The show was F#ckin' AWSOME! From what I remember, their between song banter was hilarious. I do remember that there was no fantastic light show or effects, the songs were the thing. There was no opening act, and they played everything. I didn't leave there feeling "I wish they would have played ____________". A completely satisfying experience.

10cc was one of the greatest bands ever. You must be rather young to just be making this particular discovery.

Ummm...it got lots of airplay here in KC back in the day. How rare to find that we were ahead of our time in *anything* pertaining to radio.
