6/9/2006: Mahout drive-in movie

Thanks xoB, via WaPo. This is Thailand, where a Thai animated movie called "Kan Kluay" has been released, and these Mahouts - elephant drivers - have gathered to watch it. It's a scene remincent of the old drive-in movies we used to have (where the audience sat in their cars).

Elephants scare me.

Well, only when they're on trucks going like, 50 miles an hour.

Otherwise, they're cute.

just try sneaking in by hiding in the trunk.

Except I never had to worry about the car in front of me taking a dump!

If you have ever observed first-graders watching a movie, lying down is the prefered viewing method. Elephants are no different, I guess.

Ibby 06-09-2006 12:51 PM

First-graders? It goes up to eleven, buddy.

Well, twelve. But it's not a Spinal Tap reference to say that.

Pancake Man 06-09-2006 03:00 PM

It is hard to lay down and maintain a state of apathy, so high-schoolers tend to avoid the whole situation.

I should've known! All Cellarites are walking quote generators! (Nice reference)

None of the drivers seem to have brought a date to the drive-in. What fun is that?

(Though I suppose that some of their rides might be feeling frisky with one another.)

You mean you never parked behind one of the rolling oil spills? The EPA kept trying to set up oil booms around my friend's 68 LeBaron. Talk about trunk space, by the way ...

As far as the elephants go: Where do you hang the speaker? They don't have windows.

UT, just curious, why did you think it was necessary to further explain drive in movies by saying how (in cars)? I **know** I have some company that can personally recall going to the drive in movies. Yes, in a car.

Kids today have no idea what they are.

The concept of a rotary phone is totally beyond them as well.

And car windows that you have to crank up and down.

Washing dishes without a machine.

It's all a mystery.

BigV 06-09-2006 07:31 PM

Great.

Now I feel old AND sad.

Is this about the time of those big, round black things?
