Reality TV, Shariah Style

Indonesia now has a new reality TV show that, unlike ours, is actually real; talk about your fear factor!

An man caught drinking at a beachside stall was sentenced to 40 lashes. The caning was televised nationally, and he fainted on the seventh stroke (thereby failing to win the final round). :worried:

40 lashes for drinking? What do they give queers. :ninja:

The freakin' willies, I'd say.

I think that Shariah Law requires that the authorities TAKE their freakin' willies, rather than give them.

This is a culture that still cuts the hands off theives, after all.

You don't know? Last I heard it was stoning, as in "force them to sit next to a stone wall and then push it over on them".

That's one reason I'm not keen to live under Islamic law. The Fundies only don't want me to marry a woman. Or a man...I'm not sure.

So really, when it comes to dealing with fundies, you can marry either one and claim it's the other you can't marry, right?

Would not work in the US... I would rip off his mask and later beat his ass.

So that's what happened to my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume!

Seriously, what is with the orange mask on top of the hood? Is it some sort of badge like a martial arts belt? Does orange mean he's passed the 1000 lash mark?

I'd say it's a brutal practice that we left behind centuries ago, but if you look at punishment, both legal and illegal, in this country, you'll find us doing stuff almost as barbaric into the early 20th century.

In 1997 Texas attempted to pass a law to study introducing caning as a judicial punishment.

In 1997 Mississippi attempted to introduce caning as a punishment for church arson.

That being said, I doubt that we would do it the same way.
