Katie Couric?
Tell me why I should give a shit.

Tell me why I should bother with this thread.

Why

I'm just really disappointed in how much ink and verbiage has been spent discussing her imminent arrival as an anchor on a 22-minute "news" show. "Katie Couric this," and "Katie Couric that." These American obsessions with TV personalities grate on me; they can't be avoided. Cute Katie looks up at me from magazines and newspapers, and Catie stories course through the air via radio and television signals. She's more important, evidently, than the role of our Nation in the world or the decisions of our "leaders." I will NOT watch her first show. |
Well, my first thought was "Katie Couric...what? What about her?" because I have no idea what you are talking about, still don't, I glazed right over your last post, out of lack of giving a shit. I submit the following: nobody is forcing you to suckle at the teat of jabbering "News" outlets. If you reject their useless information, then why do you continue to submit yourself to it? Wake up, man! Unplug your TV!

I thought this was a would hit it / wouldn't hit it thread.
I'm with Flint on the tube. |
My "television" is acting as a monitor for my 5-disc CD changer. It obeys my commands.

TV
I do not subscribe to the "Kill Your TV" way of life. I think TV can be very entertaining and informative. I'm a news and world events junkie, and a popular culture avatar, so I do watch TV. That said, I save my serious "watching" for CSPAN (especially BookTV), The News Hour after work, the Daily Show and Colbert Report, PBS fare if it's of interest to me. I read the NYT daily. It's the latter publication that had a big article on Ms. Couric, so I read it (probably a mistake). NPR had a piece about her, and just the "noise" of our media-saturated world has been infused with references to her and her "role" as female anchor.
I congratulate Flint on not knowing ANYTHING about Couric. That he didn't shows either commitment, isolation, savvy discretion, or a little of each. One does not have to watch TV to have heard of the Courics of the world, however. |
They are hyping up Katie. She is to blow...er, I mean, interview, G dub. Can hardly wait.

I watch TV only for CSI, simpsons, arrested development, and a couple other shows that I deem worthy. For everything else, I have bittorrent and msnbc.com.. though I get most of my news, admittedly, through the cynical, mocking, oft-pessimistic filter that is the Cellar.

Scrubs, the original CSI, sports, and the History/dicover/science channels are worth watching.
As for Katie Couric - she'll read the news from a teleprompter. That's all. She's not a journalist or reporter - she's Ron Burgundy with a vagina. |

She did OK. However, the second she asked at the end for ideas for her nightly sign off, I told my boyfriend that the Cellar would have a heyday with that one! Nothing? Did I miss it? Ok, I'll start.
"And that's the news. How do you like me now?" |
"I'm mad as hell, and I can't take it anymore!"
