News Release
Social Security Announces 3.3 Percent Benefit Increase for 2007

Elspode 10-18-2006 09:51 AM

Dude. Now you can afford Alpo instead of Ken-L-Ration.

Ibby 10-18-2006 09:53 AM

Wow, at this rate, when I grow up I'll be able to afford Bachelor Chow!

Spexxvet 10-18-2006 10:00 AM

At the same time, they're cutting reimbursements to providers. Poor Mercedes driving doctors...:sniff:

Happy Monkey 10-18-2006 11:05 AM

I think you're talking Medicare there.

Well Medicare will probably increase about 10 bucks, so goodby 3.3%.
Part B: (Medical Insurance) Premium $93.50 per month. From $88.50
That's 5 bucks they get back. Bet money va meds will increase 2 bucks per script.
It's kinda like getting a 2-bit raise that puts you in a higher tax bracket and ya take home less money. Oh Well :smack:

marichiko 10-18-2006 02:08 PM

Oh, be still my heart! That means I'll be getting a whopping $693.14/month. Which means my apartment rent will go up to $208.00, taking away $16.00 of my increase right there. I wonder what I'm gonna do with that extra $4.00/month. Decisions, decisions...

I also don't get medicaid anymore, I get something called Medicare part D, which they STILL haven't sent me my card for, so no prescriptions for me until the damn thing arrives. My prescriptions cost $500/month and I'm a mess without them which I haven't been for two weeks now. You can tell from my posts yesterday that my brain is starting to fizzle out.

Yes, but at the same time they announced a 12% increase in the deduction for Medicare which comes out of that SS payment

That's 5 bucks they get back. Well that may be 12%. The figures are from Medicare web. And the $88.50 is my last years cost?
Hope your 12% is wrong, 6 more bucks for me.

I assume you didn't read, but the first post?

busterb 10-18-2006 06:36 PM

After reading this link. http://questions.medicare.gov/cgi-bi...ki&p_lva=1847#
Why if I'm making over 400k per year, do I need the Gov. to help me????
Is the Gov. in the insurance business? Damifino

marichiko 10-18-2006 06:46 PM

Good question, Busterb. Folks making $400,000 a year don't need government hand-outs.:eyebrow:

Oh, and Tonchi, thanks for explaining where my extra $4.00 will go.

No, doctors just don't take Medicare/Medicaid, anymore. When I moved out here, I couldn't find ANY doctor with openings for new Medicare/Medicaid patients. Finally, I found a rural clinic (supported by the gov which makes up the difference in fees). The clini is 19 miles away. I'm looking forward to Dr.'s appointments come winter. If I want to see a neurologist, I get to drive all the way to Grand Junction, some 250 miles or so away.

Aliantha 10-18-2006 07:57 PM

Once you earn over $100K here you don't get anything from the govt really except medicare if you aren't privately insured, which you're mad not to be if you earn over $100K.

busterb 10-18-2006 09:01 PM

Kinda my point. If you have that much money, WHY Gov. help? Perhaps were one one of the bush pioneers, who gave a ton of money?? True? Damifino. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...=bush+pioneers
