Song Battle

Present two songs, from different artists, that you appreciate for some quality that you feel they share.
Explain the pairing: be it lyrical, stylistic, technical, or even a purely personal association. Here's mine:

Wheels of Fortune - Doobie Brothers
and
Green Earrings - Steely Dan

Two intensely tight and grooving and songs, rhythmically dense, with extended instrumental/solo sections.
Both from artists that don't exclusively do this type of thing, but when they do, oh man do they do it right.

The "Battle" part is, I guess, pick your favorite and then explain why.
Then do yours. Don't bother being linear. Butt in, tail post, whatever.

You know, make it a competition, to fuel heated debates, etc.

It makes no difference to me what you do, as long as you get in here and discuss some music!

Why? He said so. Do it now. Or else. You know you want to. The rules call out to you. They beg you to play by them.

I can't think of a "less than one" word. Oh well. I'll let thread drift take its course. Thanks, Jay.

Hotel California by the Eagles & Stairway to Heaven by Led Zepplin

'cuz they entertwined to give me the right message at the right time to get my act together and not screw up my life for evermore.

"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave." and "There's still time to change the road you're on."

My second set is:

Turn the Page by Bob Seger and In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins

'cuz they are both very soulful, poignant expressions of the pain of everyday life . . .
