Freefaller
On the news tonight - a freefaller in New Zealand filmed his own fall to earth after his parachute failed to open. Despite falling at 100mph and crashing into the ground, he ended up alive with just a broken ankle and a collapsed lung.
ITV showed the film tonight on their late news bulletin - not on their website yet though - will keep an eye out for it. |
How do you survive that?

he ended up alive with just a broken ankle and a collapsed lung.
And a pair of underware FULL of ,,,,,, CRAP!!! |
His chute opened at the last minute and he hit the trees. Is it the same one cyclefrance was talking about? ;)

http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/pages/...0&in_a_source=I can't view freshnesschronic's clip, but this is the one that Cyclefrance was referring to, as seen on the evening news.
Neither of his chutes opened, but he did land in a thicket/ brambles, so it might be the same one? |
HTML Code:
It shows him plummeting 12,000ft to earth after both his parachutes failed, saying goodbye to the world... and hitting the ground with a sickening thud at 80mph. |
Terminal velocity when flat and stable is about 120 mph. It takes around 90 mph air resistance just to be maneuverable. At 80 mph he probably had the form of a sack of potatoes. Shame he wasn't equipped to land by autorotation.

A spinning sack of potatos..... but not being able to cut the tangled main chute free and having to work the second chute out, he didn't have much choice. Hey, he could have drilled to China, so he's damn lucky.
