Regime change doesn't seem to have gone so well overall in Iran's next door neighbor.

Well at least not from an external position. What do you think would have happened if Clinton was successful and they followed through with a coup from the inside? They were so close, but of course backed out at the last minute and everyone involved was executed. I would suggest they take a lesson from Iraq that the overt military option is not working. Who knows?

Quite frankly, I don't think any of us should know whether our country is advocating regime change, publicly or privately. I don't like the government keeping secrets, but the fact that this subject has gotten a lot of public attention in recent years has not been good for us.

Try to tell that to the proponents of "Open Government".

As hypocritical as this sounds, "regime change" is one of those things where I wouldn't mind keeping things quiet...so long as our goverment are truly working for the betterment of the citizens of this country. Wishful thinking, I know...but I still have hope...

I say let the locals work on regime change and we sit back and reap the fruits of small open ineffectual government. Unfortunately, that will require a new political party and we know how well that'll work, since the game is rigged for the two pro-leviathan parties.

Oh, don't think they haven't/aren't trying it. But once you introduce "staffers" on The Hill to the information don't expect it to stay secret for to long. We need a version of the Secrets Act like they have in the UK. Until they truely start to punish people for leaks no one is going to really give a fuck. Take the Libby/Rove/Plame Affair, it wasn't till later that Richard Armitage came out and told everybody that he was the one that released the info. Well hell than your ass should go straight to frigging jail. But was he ever charged. Fuck no. Do not pass Go.

Hey Griff, Ron Paul was on Bill Maher's show last night. Great interview. I totally respect that guy because he believes what he believes, but doesn't try to cram it down your throat.

Last time we had a "regime change" in Iran it led to all the problems that we have today.

And of course, there's no guarantee that we'll get the government of our liking.

So the government of the United States should treat the people that elected them in the exact same way they deal with regimes openly hostile to it?

At some point, you are going to realize that we are not nuts.
