PS3 Sucking

Sony's new PlayStation 3 video game system has gone from top dog to underdog in record time. Despite the buildup and hype around its arrival in November, the PS3 has been outsold so far — at a rate of almost 2-to-1 — by the Nintendo Wii.

In February, the Wii was the top-selling console video game system with an estimated 335,000 sold, outpacing the Microsoft Xbox 360 (228,000) and the PS3 (127,000), according to The NPD Group.
For Sony, that performance "is simply abysmal," says Newsweek's N'Gai Croal. "The PS3 is sucking wind right now. …. Price is a factor. Some of the negative buzz is a factor. Some of the FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) is a factor. And the lack of a large number of triple-A software titles is a factor."

Nintendo's $250 Wii, released the same week as the PS3 ($500-$600), has sold about 1.9 million so far, compared with 1.1 million PS3s.
I have a Wii. :D My sister at home loves it, and so do I. I definitely wouldn't have guessed the lovechild of PS2 and the new gen Blu-Ray technology would not be able to live up to its hype. Blu-Ray's life is definitely in danger if the PS3 can't raise its sales:yelsick:

But then again, Sony made the MiniDisk. I know, cause I bought one of those pieces of shit.

A funny song about PS3 http://www.gamercastnetwork.com/vgs/...Brand-FULL.mp3

I bet price as a lot to do with it too.

The Wii is so much fun though, I can see why it is so popular.

Price is still keeping me away. That and the fact that the first generation PS2s were garbage, with bugs that needed ironing out.

And I don't think there's a GT5 yet is there?

Done with high-end graphics, done with spending a fortune on hardware to keep up with PC gaming. I burned a fat stack of money years ago just to be able to play Half Life 2 and when I finished the game I felt sorely disappointed. Games that followed required even more horsepower to render graphics and keep up with the physics engines. I got fed up and decided that the pretty/shiny/sparkly world of high-end gaming wasn't worth it, anymore, and it happened that Nintendo had very good timing.

I ditched the PC as a gaming platform in favor of a Wii and a Powerbook. In the [very] distant future I may consider a PS3, but it would have to take a serious price cut and even then I find myself leaning much more towards the 360 for online gaming and range of game titles. For now, I find the Wii to be an immense amount of fun and I'm really looking forward to the new releases this year, both new games and old NES titles on the virtual console.

I find it amusing that we received a PS2 as a gift for Christmas this past year, as did some of my friends. For a system so old, it still gets a surprising amount of play thanks to the titles released for it. The thing still sells really well.

freshnesschronic does. That wasn't obvious? He's the one that posted the poll.

TheMercenary 04-20-2007 10:34 AM

good point.

freshnesschronic 04-20-2007 10:35 AM

What's wrong with video games?

BigV 04-20-2007 10:56 AM

grrrr.. voted wii, voted wrong, stupid poll, stupid poorly worded question and poll choices.

Most *consoles*.... xbox360.

most increase in market share -- wii

Most fun -- Wii

Most profit -- wii

Most unit sales -- Nintendo DS.

I read the title, voted my favorite, Wii, and clicked GO! just before I read DS... rats. Seriously, the DS will have the highest unit sales.

I'll go with my PC. I know how to keep it updated without blowing an arm and a leg.

If you don't care for video games can you at least have respect for other people and not comment on it?

Why, you don't respect my opinions, do you?

Perry Winkle 04-20-2007 01:27 PM

I've been a bit burnt out on games for a while. Though, playing stuff like Oblivion and Gears of War on my brother's 360 almost convinced me to buy one.

You know your gamer credentials are in jeopardy when you'd rather read a book, go outside, or work instead of playing a video game.

If you had an opinion other than "who cares" I would. If you don't like any type of video game and stated why, I would respect your opinion entirely even though I may or may not disagree with it. How you said it makes you come off as condescending to Fresh and everyone that has an opinion on this topic, which is why I said something.

I have an opinion, I'm sure Merc is just like my parents and comes from the generation who doesn't understand or appreciate video games. It's just a generation gap, that's all, no biggie. Different times, different styles, different attitudes.
