Background video
The TVs in my house are usually on, typically with the sound turned off (I love closed captioning!) as light, movement, and noise background.
I really love "ambient" videos--my favorites are the Hawaiian Dreams series--an endless loop of waves, waterfalls, etc. I also bought one called, "Sanctuary" which is a fish one, but the new age music bugs the hell out of me. When I was at the Hirshorn museum, I bought an art video called The Way Things Go--an elaborate "domino"-style experiment in motion, which is also pretty cool. I'm tempted to buy a fireplace one. |
For a time I was convinced that Sunrise Earth had to be one of the worst ideas for a television series, made even more awful and ironic by airing it in the morning when one could go outside and see a real sunrise. Why broadcast something that happens every damn day? Are people really that lazy that they need a television show dedicated to the sun coming up?
...but, no, watching it is wonderful. Peaceful, quiet, happy. Really. It is very pleasing to flip the television on and be taken to a tranquil farm or rolling seaside and hear no voices, no commercials, no narration. Just the sound of the environment. I love it. |
exactly. Sound of waves, chirping of birds . . . and NO flashing lights! That's one of the things that bothers me about TV--aggressive flickering, strobing lights.

I have never seen any of those ... I thought such things were primarily for the entertainment of cats who really don't care about them.
I guess it would be a cooler thing if you have one of those big wallscreens. I need a big wallscreen, but I don't have a big wall available right now. |
This is the nicest one I've found. Great to fall asleep to!
