Mr Angry Illusion

I received this in an e-mail, so I'll apologize to those who have already seen it.
-------------------------
It is said this illusion was created by Phillippe G.Schyns and Aude Oliva of the
Univ.of Glasgow.

If you view the images from your seat in front of the computer Mr. Angry is on the left, and Mrs.Calm is on the right.

Get up from your seat, and move back 12 feet, and PRESTO!! they switch places!

I wanna say this was an IOTD maybe? I know it's been posted before. Good stuff though, now I know where to find it again when I want to freak out the kids. :)

I was almost too lazy to look. Wonder how that's done.

It works if you squint your eyes really hard, too (I don't have room to stand that far back :)).

I think I get it . . . When you're up close you see the darker features, the angry squinty eyes versus the calmer relaxed ones. But when you're farther away, you see the vague shadows on the face that look like muscles. On the angry guy they're smoothed out like he's calm and on the calm guy, the shadows make it look like his forehead is scrunched up, etc.
Kind of neat, actually, though the faces look like something out of a horror film.

Works if you take your glasses off, too. Adjust distance as needed. (I scooched up closeish.)

yeah...my eyes don't work well enough to see either of them from 12 feet away. lol

It is interesting though. I did the squinting thing.

That looks like me on any given hour of the work week. :)

Angry or calm? Or does it depend on the viewing distance?

Distance is always good when it's the angry one! I was referring to "this is my face now" but give me a minute and it's subject to change! :)
