Dog-Fighting!

Seriously, wtf?

Are we really this much of a third-world country?

Surry County (Va.) Commonwealth attorney Gerald Poindexter said Friday he is confident charges will be brought in the investigation of a possible dog-fighting operation at a house then owned by Vick. Dog fighting is a felony in Virginia.

Police raided the rural home April 25 as part of a drug investigation. They seized 66 dogs, 55 of them pit bulls, and equipment that could be associated with dog fighting.

It would appear that we sometimes are.

Spexxvet 05-31-2007 04:23 PM

What you mean we?

Cloud 05-31-2007 05:02 PM

don't you watch Animal Planet's cop shows? They round up these people ALL the time. Cock fighters, too.

lizzymahoney 05-31-2007 06:56 PM

Yeah, this is considered a sport by many people. Pit bulls are always in demand in my county. You learn not to ask what's happened to all of them. Surely we can't have that many imported year after year, but we do.

Many apparently normal and middle or working class people do not see anything wrong with this sort of animal abuse, and they often do not realize it's illegal.

For those of us who are horrified, I challenge you to really get down to it and ask neighbors and casual acquaintances and people of all job titles at work what they think about dog fights or cock fights. If you aren't shocked, I would suggest you simply did not ask the right way or were too selective in your choice of respondents.

Ha, I'd also suggest there are people on this board who find nothing wrong with dog fighting.

Barbaric.

I'd pay good money to see Ron Mexico and a dog in a fight to the death.

This is a situation where one person does not represent the entire population (or in this case, 1%) so it is pointless to blame the United States for this. No matter how civilized a society is, you will always get sick people like this.

There are people all over the world who enjoy barbaric sports. What do you think of bull fighting?

Maybe dog fighting just seems worse because most of us consider dogs to be loyal and faithful companions.

I don't think there's any sport in betting on which animal will die first.

Human beings are cruel. Throughout history they've abused other creatures for their own benefit.

I think we should all just curl up and die.

Cock fighting is sick, too, but people figure chickens have such tiny brains it doesn't matter.

I would like to see a fight to death of two Venus Flytraps. Now that would be a competition. tick tick tick tick...

Aliantha 06-01-2007 08:20 AM

Ahuh....Shawnee...did you take your medication yet today? lol

Shawnee123 06-01-2007 08:25 AM

No! Ooops! :)

Cloud 06-01-2007 08:33 AM

probably the same people who think confrontation and argument are entertaining. same basic principle, but the blood is metaphoric.

or football. or hockey where the blood is sometimes in the visible spectrum.

(Oops! did I say that aloud? :) Not serious! don't hurt me!)

Aliantha 06-01-2007 08:36 AM

I don't think that's true Cloud.

Cloud 06-01-2007 08:46 AM
