Cellar Pronunciation
 

When I met Dana last week, I found myself tripping up over her pronunciation of some Dwellars' names. The way you sometimes do when you discuss fantasy novels with someone (this also happened)

Three that stand out in my memory are:
Rkzenrage:
RIXen-rage vs ar-kay-ZEN-rage

Marichiko:
mar-ITCHY-co vs mari-CHI-ko

Brianna:
BRY-anna vs BREE-anna

Just wondered how other Dwellars hear these in their heads.
And whether there are any others open to interpretation.

Here is how those have been for me:

Rick's-in-rage (as in a state of emotion)

Mar-itchy-co

Bree-ahnna

ARK-zen-rage ... doesn't make any sense, but once I "hear" something a certain way, that's it

try plthijinx

and bluecuracao

i just call rage rage.

pilot hi-jinx - but only because I read it explained that way once

blue CURE-a-so (that's the way I pronounce the drink YMMV)

I realised I call you LJ and Undertoad UT in conversation. How lazy.

pillthy jinx - as in filthy jinx, but with a "p."

blue cure-a-sou (ou as in ouch)

blue "kur-keh-row" ... because I've never heard the name of the stuff pronounced, and I sort of approximated the letters involved

OK. That makes so much more sense. I do think I remember reading something about a pilot now. I really should pay more attention.

I pronounce Brianna in my head as "bree-AHNA," but when it's shortened to Bri, it's "breye." No, I can't explain it, that's just the way it is.

I've always read that as filthy jinx, which is kind of cool. Even though the pilot thing makes more sense, once I've heard it as one thing I find it difficult to alter :P

Well, my user name is pronounced in the US as rich-leevee.

The Australian pronunciation is ko-willa-walla-bong. Not to be confused with ko-walla-willa-bonk, which is their word for grapefruit.:p

Wait, really? Just goes to show, you can't assume anything... I've always read "LEV-ee," because that's how the other guy I know with that last name pronounces it.

I say it as in "drove my Chevy to the levee"

Yeah, like that.
