This thing is pissin me off.

How can I get my jpeg file size smaller? I am running Windows Xp home
on a Compaq Presario, with the stock software installed. I can not afford to buy any thing.:comp1:

... download Infran View ... it's free ... resize/resample function is a lifesaver ...

Irfanview is free and easy to use. Worthwhile to have.

You can resize pictures and then when you save them as something, you can select how much compression you want there to be. That's two different ways to reduce the file size.

Fargon- there are several places you can get free software for your machine on the internet. There are lots of things that are really handy that you don't have to buy. Infran view is one of them. You don't actually have to buy software unless you specialize in something that requires it.
Like if you really need indesign to make your life easier, but your boss is too cheap and doesn't "get" how much time (money)you have wasted (more than the actual price of the program) with text work-arounds and the like because you don't have it.
*Sorry that's another thread entirely*.

You probably already have Paint installed under Accessories. Just use the Image menu and select Stretch/Skew and enter the new image dimensions as a percent for Horizontal & Vertical.

Since nobody has suggested it, try Irfanview.

Since you're using Windows XP, you can download the Windows Powertoys, which includes an image resizer. With that, you can right-click a directory and choose resize.

Powertoys can be downloaded for no cost.
