Cellar tip jar is up and running
 

OK! Here are the current rules of thumb for the tip jar.

Until further notice, any and all money that comes in via the tip jar will go directly to text ads for the Cellar. In this way, anything you donate will help the Cellar by bringing visitors here. Plus, you're supporting a new form of advertising that is less irritating and more appropriate for the net.

You're also supporting the sites where text ads go. They include, in no particular order:

fark.com (classifieds)
kuro5hin.org
blogspot (supporting hundreds of small sites)
blogger (ditto)
metafilter.com
ad farm (ads for many smaller sites and online comics)

Text ads will vary between linking to the main site and linking to the image of the day. People seem more likely to stick around if they come in via iotd, because it's about something, rather than the Cellar itself which is roughly about nothing.

If you want your tip jar donation to go to a specific site, let me know and I will certainly support that.

Oh yeah, and for the time being, there's nothing special about being a donor and nothing bad about not being one. You get no special status other than the self-satisfaction of knowing you gave and supported the spread of the word about the Cellar.

I didn't put in a suggested amount. Give as little or as much as you like. Give $3 or $30, if you want to.

OK, I'll pony up a few bucks, I said I would. The only thing you forgot to tell us, Tony, was <i>how</i> to participate!

And as long as we get to choose our charity, why not have the Cellar sponsor another contest on Worth1000? Only 25 bucks (same as a Fark ad) and some good exposure there.

Alright you bishes, I just sent a couple bucks and became the first donor. It should buy some ads for a little while, but when it runs out, it's your turn to put something in. Don't let me be the only one to give some money - we've all gotten something from the Cellar, and it's time to give something back.
