Where did you see yourself?

A friend of mine constantly asks me....where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I hate this question, because I am not one of *those* people, I just coast through I guess.

When I think back to where I saw myself at this stage in my life (when I was younger, looking ahead)....I guess I saw myself ...married, children, on a small farm with a few acres for my horses....in a job that didnt tie me down so much in the 9-5 grind.

My spare time spent riding my horses competitively, and tripping around touring.

Where did/do you see yourself?

Are you living the dream?

Does anyone live their dream?

What small changes could you make to get closer to your dream?

I have to say that 5 years ago I never dreamed I'd be where I am today. I thought I'd be teaching a bunch of high school students basic manners while still being a single parent to my sons. Probably living either in the house I was in back then, or perhaps I would have bought a townhouse or something and sold the old one.

Instead I'm married now and feeling very hopeful about where i'm going and what I'm doing.

Things were looking pretty bleak for me 5 yrs ago.

I thought I'd be married and have a job that I was lukewarm about. Maybe have a kid.

Now, I'm just a bachelor housing one of my friends with a pretty easy day job. I make enough money to pay for both of us and only need to work 20 hours a week, so I have plenty of time to do whatever I like. Back in college, too, so it's not what I planned but I like my life a lot right now.

In five years?

I suppose i'll be in my senior year of college... hopefully at marlboro, or at least somewhere in vermont.

5 years ago was... not a good time in my life. I was in fact trying desperately to predict all the places I could end up being, because I was in the midst of some very difficult and life-altering decisions. But having made the decisions I made, I have ended up pretty much exactly where I'd hoped I would at the time.

Career-wise I will need to make some changes to be where I want to be in another 5 years. Right now I'm lacking a little motivation.

hmm, 5 yrs ago, I don't think I had a "dream" of where I would be in 5 yrs.:) Time has just flown by. I know there are things that I want to accomplish/do - will I? Doubt it. Maybe. I will have to put forth the effort.

I really hope to be alive in 5 years. If I am and pain therapy has not progressed as much as I like to think it will... I don't think about it.
Where did I think I would be... moderately successful writing and acting career in indy films and was well on my way.

I'm where I thought I would be, albeit a few pounds heavier.

Five years ago, I could not have predicted, or even hoped I'd be where I am now.

Five years ago I was having a terrible time in Vegas (!) with my now-ex, causing me to realize that the marriage was pretty much over.

5 years ago I saw myself by now finishing up my degree in geological sciences (has since changed) and pursuing an internship with some large oil company looking for deposits around the world.

I am nearly right where I thought I would be with some serious varitions along the way, but in the end the result was the same. Both in a financial sense and a personal sense.

5 years ago i was hoping to find a way to pay off a ton of medical bills. career-wise i never really thought much ahead. i just woke up and did whatever seemed like a good idea at the time.

now looking forward 5 years i'd like to have my company running smoothly enough to provide solid income for myself and my assistant and have 2-3 junior advisors working for me. my goal is to develop a large enough cashflow to fund a private soccer club for lower income kids with no concern for profitability.

Aliantha 10-08-2007 10:37 PM

Sounds like a nice goal lookout. I hope you achieve it.
