Brain Teasers!

I figured there needs to be a thread for brain teasers, so I'll start things off with this one.

Is she spinning clockwise or counter-clockwise?

I've looked at it for a while and at first I saw her spinning counter-clockwise, but then after a bit she went clockwise!
So what do you think? Depending on which way you see her tells which side of the brain you use more of!

She spins counter-clockwise
LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses logic
detail oriented
facts rule
words and language
present and past
math and science
can comprehend
knowing
acknowledges
order/pattern perception
knows object name
reality based
forms strategies
practical
safe

She spins clockwise
RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses feeling
"big picture" oriented
imagination rules
symbols and images
present and future
philosophy & religion
can "get it" (i.e. meaning)
believes
appreciates
spatial perception
knows object function
fantasy based
presents possibilities
impetuous
risk taking

It's an interesting and fun optical trick, but according to new scientist ( http://www.newscientist.com/blog/sho...cing-girl.html ) the direction of rotation you perceive has nothing to do with which side of your brain is dominant.

Further, this whole left brain = verbal/logical, right brain = emotional/artistic business has long since been thrown out by actual neuroscientists. See http://www.newscientist.com/article/...ght-brain.html .

I guess this gives me away as a left brainer, doesn't it?

Oh well, she's got nice boobs, and that's what really matters. ;)

I have to say my first thought was she's spinning clockwise, and I had to really focus to see her spinning anti-clockwise, but I'm a Physics student and pride myself on being very logical, so I would have thought I would be strongly "left-brained," so I have to side with ZenGum, I don't think this trick gives much insight into mental function.

Hey, nice wrinkles! Were they all out of the good colors and you had to take gray?

Still neat on how your brain perceives it. Anyone else have any teasers?

Clockwise. I can't even make myself see it anticlockwise.

But....

I am a figure skater and I spin clockwise, so there may be an element of expectation/comfort level in there. Also, left-handers usually sping clockwise. Most right-handers and so therefore most skaters spin anticlockwise. So I'm sure handedness will play a small part in perception too.

monster 10-14-2007 03:56 PM

Oh funny, I went back to it and now she's clearly spinning the other way!

monster 10-14-2007 03:58 PM

and now back to clockwise

I couldn't make her go clockwise until I blocked out everything but her lower foot and told myself to look at it clockwise, and then when I raised my hand to look at the rest of her, she stayed that way.

elSicomoro 10-14-2007 04:13 PM

I see her clockwise. I tried to see her counter-clockwise, but it only made my head hurt again.

Cloud 10-14-2007 04:35 PM

she switches from one rotation to another and back.

Elspode 10-14-2007 06:03 PM

I can't make her change direction unless I look at the reflection of the foot.

Still quite the mind fuck.

Counter - until I tried UT's trick... only works for a few seconds though, then she goes back.

lumberjim 10-14-2007 07:27 PM

mostly, i notice that her nipples are hard. then....its clockwise....if i try and come up from the bottom, i can make her go counter.

monster 10-15-2007 12:22 AM

tis still clockwise....

so what handedness do you all have? is there a correlation?

just tried is easy for me to dsee it clockwaise, but to see it anticw, I have to first see it mentally. then open my eyes and watch the animation
