Sydney is world's best city - again

From the Sydney Morning Herald:

Quote:

THE weather has been rubbish, the hospitals are crook, the trains are late and crowded, and housing prices are through the roof.

Yet Sydney still sparkles in the eyes of more than 10,000 people in 20 countries who have rated it the world's best city for the second year in a row.
Although I think it's great that an Australian city has copped this gong, I personally think Melbourne or Brisbane are nicer cities. That being said, Sydney certainly has all that touristy and businessy stuff going for it.

So who's coming to Sydney then?

skysidhe 03-02-2008 07:37 PM

London and Paris were let down by the lack of satisfactory, affordable accommodation and worries about the friendliness of the locals. New York is seen as dirty, expensive and unsafe.

"Sydney has shown that it is not just a great tourist destination, but it is truly a global city, ranked top of the class for beauty, climate and friendliness.<-- I guessed as much.:)

All the more reason I'm planning on visiting sometime in the not so distant future.

lumberjim 03-02-2008 09:16 PM

fuck sydney. and the horse it rode in on. fuck brisbane too. and melbourne can lick my nuts.

Aliantha 03-02-2008 09:54 PM

What's up your skirt jimbo?

lumberjim 03-02-2008 10:01 PM

oh nothing....

..just presenting an alternative viewpoint.

I mean, these 'best' places to be/live/work stories are such crap. You can be happy nearly anywhere.

that is to say, if you're a miserable fuck in Pittsburgh, you'll probably be a miserable fuck in Seattle too.

with all that said:

I'm real glad you're so pleased with yourself for being Australian and all, but in light of recent anti american topics and sentiments you've communicated, i'd like to invite you to suck it.

Bullitt 03-02-2008 10:03 PM

Suck it long, and suck it hard?

sucK it?

Aliantha 03-02-2008 10:06 PM

You know what jimbo, why don't you do it yourself? I'm sick of trying to explain myself to the morons around here who really have no concept of open discussion. Particularly those who only get involved in order to sling insulting personal remarks.

Would you all be happy if everyone who happens to be non american leaves just so they don't hurt your poor little feelings when they point out that America is not necessarily the best place on the planet. That other countries have things about them that are good too, and get this: sometimes they're better!

with all that said:

I'm real glad you're so pleased with yourself for being American and all, but in light of recent anti non american comments you've communicated, I'd like to invite you to fuck off. :)

Have a nice day. ;)

I thought you were taking your drunk arse to bed?

Sydney doesn't even come to mind when I think of world cities.

New York, Toronto, Paris, Los Angeles, London, Beijing, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Cairo, Seoul, Sao Paulo, Chicago and Mexico City all come to mind before Sydney...in my honest opinion.
But congrats, makes me want to go there to see what all the hooplah is about.

Personally I would love to visit and spend time in Australia. I have always wanted to visit. Things I dream about are the beautiful beaches, the friendly people, love the accent, the outback, the North side of the continent, the South side, Tasmaina, the reef, the list goes on. I have a soft side for the UK, Ireland, Australia, and NZ.

I spent 3-4 days in Sydney and found it to be a very nice city. Reminds me a lot of San Francisco, but with warmer weather. And cleaner.

Cloud 03-03-2008 09:49 AM

I would love to visit Australia, and any of its cities. Lots of cool people there, obviously.
