Something different in a car door

Wow that is really cool!

Cute, but you're totally screwed if your battery goes dead.

I also wonder what sort of safety interlocks are in place to prevent accidental decapitation or amputation. I was nearly strangled by the "passive" restraint system in my Talon once when I had to open the door to grab a turnpike toll ticket. I often wondered if anyone ever reviewed the security tapes and had a good laugh over that ...

I have always been a big fan of the gull-wing door (UFO fan as a kid), but that has it's own problems, particularly when it comes to parking space selection.

I think it would be tough to keep the seats dry if you had to get in or out during a major rain.

But I still want those doors.

more so than an ordinary door? Look like you could put a brolly up easier as the door lowered.

I remember seeing this before, it's an idea that's been prototyped for years, I guess these guys are trying it again, they look really well done.
Also there is no central pillar, just one long window reducing blind spots.

I know they're terribly uncool, but I like the sliding doors on minivans for many of same reasons, big wide access (I'm big and find normal door opeings small and awkward) and swing out needing a lot of area

"Your door is ajar."

"Nooo, my door is a door."

That is so cool. I've never heard of it before. The best part? Not getting the back of your pant legs (or sequined gown) dirty when getting in or out of the car. I hate that.

No such luck, it's the rocker panel below the door that soils your sequined gown.

Not that I can tell. Look at 1:20 to 1:30. It seems like at the very least the top of the door where the window retracts into would be the only thing that might touch the back of your legs. For those of us with short legs, this would be a definate plus. :D

Hmmmm... interesting but I can't see how a Hollywood movie cop is going to use that door to knock a bad guy down, and they certainly can't use them as shields during gun battles. But for the rest of us they may be a nice option. :)

But think about driving along and opening the door (which presumably it won't let you do on the regular models, but of course Hollywood will happily tweak it) and jumping in and out, ghost riding etc.

It will really help the Dukes of Hazard boys when they get too old and arthritic to slide in through the windows.

With that door, all the paparazzi could get a shot of the starlet of the day. going commando.
